Gretna finalise sponsership deal |
|
Scottish First Division champions Gretna have finalised the club's biggest sponsorship deal.
From next season, the Scottish Premier League side will be sponsored by US sandwich chain Subway and the players' shirts will display the firm's logo. BBC Sport understands the one-year deal is worth nearly £100,000 - with the option of extending the sponsorship. Gretna owner Brooks Mileson has pledged to invest in the squad to cope with the demands of playing in the SPL. Multi-millionaire Mileson has financed Gretna's meteoric rise from Division Three to the top flight in three straight seasons. But Gretna slimmed down their operations at Raydale Park during the season. The club are expected to announce their financial plans for life in the SPL in the coming days and will decide on their player budget and targets. Manager Rowan Alexander was forced to take time off due to stress and assistant Davie Irons took control of the first team during his absence. But Alexander said he would manage the side again and pointed out that he would not have signed a five-year deal with the club only to walk away. Gretna last week released midfielders David Nicholls and John O'Neil and striker Matthew Berkeley. |
