A win by the Blues seems to be a definite answer, as the 2004/2005 EPL Champion battle along with a wealth of Talented players like England internationals Frank Lampard, John Terry, Joe Cole and new signing Shaun Wright-Phillips, Dutch boy wonder Arjen Robben, Argentine striker Hernan Crespo, Irish winger Damien Duff...etc. The list goes on and on. I believe the Blues fans will be enjoying the 'firing power' from the Blues, and how they've prepared to counter attack D.C. United Washington's Offense. I believe it'll not be just an 'ordinary' friendly match to the Blues. This match will be Coach Jose Mourinho's pride at 'stake', (Chelsea's 50 years EPL History breaking record, Porto's Champion winning Coach), and also is to impress billionaire's owner Roman Abramovich, who's 'growing' the club with a payroll approaching $200 million, about 100 times more than United pays its players in the newer, slower and salary-capped MLS.
However, D.C. United Washigton may not be that 'weak' as United are undefeated in matches with English clubs: 1-1 vs. Leeds United (May 16, 1997); 3-1 vs Newcastle United (July 22, 2000); 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur (October 17, 2002); 1-0 vs. Tottenham Hotspur (May 14, 2003); and 1-1 vs. Blackburn Rovers (July 23, 2003 - D.C. won on penalty kicks). So for D.C United's Fans, do not lose heart, cross your finger and hope that they could get ahead of the Blues. |

Watched the game and it was pretty entertaining. DC went up when Drogba allowed the man he was marking to run past him and head in it goal (the more I see him the more I believe he's not that good of a player), than a great volley goal by Duff, definitely a highlight goal and than Chelsea got the winner on a breakaway and Robben slid thru the pass for Crespo to score. Hard for DC to compete when Chelsea subbed 10 players at the half than another shortly after.......Mourinho never had his top 11 on at the same time.....Nice game for DC though....

Adu is a talented 16 yr old that has had an incredible amount of pressure heaped upon him by the media, and it started at the age of 14. He is a very good player, a great player for his age, but he has to learn how to mix it up with the big boys and sometimes he appears to be just another player out on the pitch, or even a 16 year old. He's capable of doing some outrageous things with the ball and really doesn't seem to fear anyone. He had a very poor U21 tourney for the US recently in Holland, as he stated himself. It was as if he was not even there, and the US was relying on much more from him. Really a disappointment. It should be noted that he's not even starting for DC United, which is the mangers decision to bring him along slowly. Many here feel that he needs to be 'tossed into the fire' now and let him learn as he goes along. He's made statements that he's frustrated when subbed in late in the game that the outcome of the game has already been decided.
Is he really going to be the next superstar that will rule the world??', as you ask.....At the moment it appears not likely. No comparison between Rooney and Adu, when Rooney was at his age he was much better. So, maybe Adu will develop once he gets more playing time. US soccer is banking on him to be the best player ever for the national side, it still may happen, time will tell. I firmly believe that if the opportunity arises to go overseas, he should jump on it. It was ironic that his mother sat as a guest in the Chelsea box last night at the game. He came out this morning and said he chatted with Mourinho before the game and that Chelsea is his favorite team.....(Hope I didn't ramble on and I was able to provide a bit of info)..... |

i've heard so much about him, first hearing his name a couple of years ago and how advanced he was for his age etc. and never really seen him first hand apart from a interview i saw on Eurosport i think it was one time. he seems like a genuine lad and obviously has talent so i'll be looking out for him and will be interested how his career develops. |
