Proposals to form a new eircom League of Ireland club in north Dublin, putatively titled Fingal FC, are in the pipeline, according to a Friday morning newspaper report.

The Irish Daily Mirror claims that Liam Buckley, the former Athlone Town, St Patrick’s Athletic and Shamrock Rovers manager, is at the forefront of the plan.

The new club could take part in the eircom League’s A Division – effectively a new third tier, including some reserve teams from existing League clubs – which is scheduled to come into being in 2008.

Buckley & Co have been in discussions with Fingal County Council over the possible use of the Morton Stadium in Santry as the home venue for the new club, which could be run as an adult outlet for alumni of the thriving North Dublin Schoolboys’ League

Yeah out of all the places for a new team they would have to choose Northside Dublin!! Surely somewhere like Mayo, Kerry, Meath etc deserve a team in the league instead of yet another in Dublin

So Division A is the top Wink , i don't think in France it is possible to start directly in Ligue 1. I think a new club must start in Lower league. Smile

Theres already 4 I think in The Premier League, 5 if you include Bray and theres a few more in the first division. Off the top of my head theres only 2 teams from the entire province of Connacht in both divisions. thers such a ridicilous bias towards Dublin in the FAI

It certainly sounds as though the FAI slightly favour the Dublin based teams.
I work in North Dublin, and can imagine the new teams support being straight out of Knackersville!

I am very new to the Irish side of things, would anyone be able to give me a brief run down of the teams - who are the Man U's of the Eircom, successful and envied by all their rivals - the Liverpools, admired by many for their history of playing attractive footy - the Arsenals, homosexual tendancies - the Wigans, doomed to a relegation dog fight - the Aston Villa's, always there, year in year out, but not doing anything much really....

....I keep an eye out for Drogheda's results, as that was where the missus was born, and Cork City, as I worked with a couple of ardent Turners Cross season ticket holders, who were very passionate about all things Cork and got me interested.

All righty then...

Shamrock Rovers are probably Liverpool, most successful club in the leagues history but their fans are..well..like the scousers, not exactly liked by everyone. They got relegated 2 years ago but came right back up last year and theyre doing ok this year.

Cork probably play the best football in the league and always produce lots of good youngsters..Kevin Doyle recently & Roy O'Donovan looks like another future star

Shelbourne are probably the Man Utd of the league, most money, best players & lots of success...until last year of course. Im sure you've heard something about it, they went bankrupt & were relegated by the FAI.

Derry & Drogheda..both progressive clubs but play shite football. A bit like Bolton I suppose

Relegation..Waterford are a yoyo club, Bray, UCD & Longford are just average clubs that never seem to do anything

St Pats & Bohemians are traditionally big clubs but have fallen away in recent years. Theyve both got a huge amount of cash this year though, Bohs sold their stadium for 50m while Pats got new investors and they'll probably be the top 2 in the coming years

Yeah Finn Harps in the first division. Its not really been much fun supporting them recently. We have a habit of finishing runners up or playoff losers every year! We were promoted 2 years ago but we went straight back down and it looks like another boring mid table season this year..

Nice one, I will keep an eye out on the Finn Harps....haven't seen a great deal of reporting on the first division, but I'm sure if I look harder.

Thanks again for a bit of an insight into the Irish scene...
