Former Middlesborough keeper joins Derry |

Derry City manager Pat Fenlon has moved to ease his goalkeeping concerns by signing former Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Ben Roberts, who has recently returned to action following a long-standing injury.
Roberts made 10 Premiership appearances for Middlesbrough and also played in the 1997 FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea. Following a brief spell at Charlton, he also turned out for Reading, Luton Town and Brighton before a back injury forced his retirement in 2004. However, he has recovered from that injury and has been snapped up on a six-week deal at the Brandywell, where he will compete for a first-team place with out-of-sorts Patrick Jennings and Ola Tidman, a winter signing from Sweden who has so far failed to convince. Fenlon told the club’s official website: “He has done very well in training and he is an experienced goalkeeper, so he’s a good addition to the squad. "He’s a good goalkeeper and a very good communicator and he’ll keep our other two keepers on their toes." |
