West Brom midfielder Jason Koumas has attracted the interest of a lot of clubs, including
Everton,
Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Celtic.
However, while some newspapers are claiming Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa are the favourites to land the 27-year-old, while the Mirror claims Celtic could splash a whopping £9million to secure Koumas and his team-mate Diomansy Kamara.
Following last week's claim that Gordon Strachan was on the verge of signing
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, hopefully this speculation is similarly wide of the mark. These two West Brom players were not good enough to earn their team a place in the English Premiership, so why should Celtic waste so much hard-earned cash on them?
While it seems likely that Strachan is looking for a midfielder like Koumas, and a striker such as Kamara, he surely knows there are other places to find players of a decent quality - and at a decent price.
Because if Celtic were to spend so much money on a couple of distinctly average players, questions would have to be asked about the direction the boss is taking the club. Players should be
Champions League quality at Parkhead, and not Championship league.
