Norwich are holding talks with Scunthorpe striker Billy Sharp about a move of around £2m to Carrow Road. The Canaries are in the driving seat to sign Sharp after offering more than rivals Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday. Scunthorpe chairman Steve Wharton told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "We've given Billy permission to talk to Norwich. "Norwich have had a £2m bid on the table for some time and want to be sure Billy wants to join them before pursuing their interest further." He added: "They have offered £2m but they know we are looking for add-ons to that which could take the price to near the £3m mark if they are promoted to the Premiership. "We have had increased bids from both Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday but neither of those come anywhere near what Norwich have offered." Norwich manager Peter Grant has made no secret that he is after a forward as he feels his side are overly reliant on Robert Earnshaw. Grant has also been linked with Southend's 23-year-old Freddy Eastwood. Sharp scored 32 goals for Scunthorpe in all competitions last season and his goals helped fire United to the League One title. While Eastwood slotted 16 times, including a memorable free-kick in the Carling Cup against Manchester United, but could not prevent Southend slipping out of the Championship. I like, this sounds like a promising signing |
