Sheffield United are set to re-sign Scunthorpe striker Billy Sharp for £2m - having sold him to the Iron for £100,000 two years ago.
"We're just waiting to finalise everything," Blades chairman Terry Robinson told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"There's a possibility that a couple of players could be going the other way as part of the deal."
However, Scunthorpe say that although Sharp, 21, is talking to other clubs, no deal has been agreed with United.
Norwich, Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves and Preston have also made bids for Sharp, who scored 32 goals last season.
Sharp had left Bramall Lane in 2005 after just two substitute appearances to join Scunthorpe, and helped them win the League One title last season.
But under the terms of that deal, the Blades will receive 25% of any transfer fee involving the striker.
Robinson added: "We made it known to Billy's representatives eight weeks ago that we would be interested in bringing him back here.
"Billy's glad to be back, he knows what we're about and we hope he'll score plenty of goals for us."

Seems to have a very good record at League one level for Scunthorpe with 53 goals in 82 appearences.
But the big debate is, can Sharp cut it at Championship level ? I think he can.
This comes up every year when a young goalscorer comes up with a newly promoted team, and the players always seem to silence their critics, Earnshaw for Cardiff was one, firing over 25 goals in his first season, Freddy Eastwood was another scoring around 15 goals for Southend another I can think of is Nugent for Preston when he made the switch from Bury.
So from the young players who have made the step up I can think of from the top of my head have all succeeded after making the move. And I beleive Sharp has everything needed to succeed at this level.
But I bet Sheffield feel like right idiots after selling him for £100,000 and now buying him back for £2,000,000. They may have a new manager, but they still love there strikers.
