England have suffered a humiliating defeat against Denmark in the last friendly before the World Cup Qualifier against Wales.

What are your opinions on this?
Have England had a reality check?
Does Sven have to go?
How good does this England team rank compared to the side of the last World Cup?
Were the Tactics right?

Have your say.

I live in france and therefore I didn't see this match, but, as an AJ Auxerre fan, I just wanted to know, if anyone remembers, how the Danish player Thomas Kahlenberg played, he entered at halftime. I know it may be hard for you to remember how he played since you must've all been more focused on England, but if you do, tell me Wink

ps : if you read any newspaper articles or internet sites that say how he played or grade him, please tell me Wink

I hope Wales humiliate England that much, but I don't suppose it's likely Sad

Sounds like it all just went pearshaped for England.

Looks like David James had a shocker once he came on, should reaffirm Robinson as Englands no. 1.

As long as England manage to qualify for the world cup Svens job is safe, the powers that be would not change managers this close to a major tournament.

Its a shame Defoe didnt take his chance, but thems the breaks.

It is unlike the England defence to get rattled like that, they have such class and talent. Something must have gone horribly wrong.

Robinson 6 (should be No.1)
James 2 (don't let him on again....)

G Neville 6
Ferdinand 6
Carragher 5 (I was happy to see him, but he didn't do his best.)
Terry 7 (really missed him on the 2nd half.)
Johnson 2 (Why he's there?)
A Cole 7

Lampard 4 (i think he's not as good as last season.)
Gerrard 5 (our Liverpool captain...where are you?)
Beckham 7 (was working hard.)
Hargreaves 6
J Cole 4 (disappointed at him.)
Jenas #

Rooney 5 (should work on his passing.)
Defoe 4
Owen 4

They didn't look like a team yesterday I think. Everyone played for himself.

Hey Gouze, I didn't see the game, but the Sporting Life minute by minute shows that he picked up a ball on 59 mins on the edge of the area but was offside, and he made the pass to Tomassen a minute later, who crossed for Rommedaahl's goal Smile
Will let you know if I see more, but the paper I read will probably only grade the England players.

BTW comment from Sporting Life says: 75 mins England keep possession and seem quite pleased with themselves, little realising that it is somewhat easier once the game is lost and therefore the is no pressure Shocked

I thought Rooney had a decent game. He was the only player that looked decent in the England Shirt. I think Wales may be whipping boys in the next game though. England are going to come out all guns blaring. They will want to make amends for the last game. Lets hope Wales can do the job though Smile

I agree that Rooney worked very hard and took his goal well!

He also worked very hard off the ball - saying that i thought that an unfit Beckham had a good game too!

It was 10 minutes of Calamity James tha lost us the game and a defense that was strolling about going through the motions not looking too interested - Ashley Cole for example looked 2 yards off the pace and his normally dynamic style was thwarted by a confident and motivated Denmark side. The crowd were up for it because everyone likes to beat England and they did the same at Old Trafford a few years ago from memory!

Owen looked like a guy lost between clubs!

I think its fair to say that most of the players had their minds on the weekends games and did not want to get injured - I am not scared and i think that England will stuff Wales in Cardiff and also the Notrthern Irish!

For an international side it was clearly not good enough but there were no real acceptable excuses for me - I would not have played Owen though - I would have given the un tried Bent a run out as Owen is not available for the next match so who plays if one of the fron two gets a knock!

James to retire for me!

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

well that should be the last game David James plays in i would think . The game was completely ruined with the second half subs , what a way to pepare for the Wales game . Maybe Sven was using reverse psycology or something thinking this defeat will buck us up .

The first half minus Owen was meant to be his strongest squad!

I am sure that the rest are laughing but it could work in our favour as you say but to be honest Denmark wanted to win more than we did full stop!

Seems one always is hearing or reading about who should the #1 keeper be, James or Robinson. I don't thing that's waht the question should be. Question should be asked who is the #2, with Robinson being the #1 hands down, it's time for James to go and decide on a backup...

As far as the game goes, not much good to comment on, obviously. Fortunate the game had no lasting meaning in regards to qualifying for the '06 WC.

I think i'm the only person who has lost interest in the international scene

Ok i'd be a fool to say i won't get excited by the world cup but i'm afraid England will not win the world cup next year or for the next 10 year!

and i'm not just saying this because we lost to Denmark 4-1 - Svens team has never and will never excite me - Venables 96 team is the last time i've been genuinely excited

I don't watch friendlies anymore because they are awful, England have no depth, and does anyone actually believe we are better than Brazil because the south americans have already got their name on the world cup and that is a fact

I was going to watch the re-run of the game on Sky earlier as I (as a Welshman) missed the fun last night, but got a bit tied up.
Having said that, maybe I shouldn't gloat too much, surely England will want to make up for this in the WC qualifier against Wales?
Or are the England players not passionate enough?
Incidentally, two of England's second-half substitutes (when it all went wrong) were qualified to play for Wales if they'd so chosen Very Happy

England definately have the passion and i think they will bounce back against Wales. I cant believe people are saying the Sven should be sacked he has been a great manager for us.

Who are the two subs???

That would be a good question on the quiz page Very Happy
BTW, I've put a little question there whilst we await the General's next conundrum, if you'd like to try it. Smile
But I'll answer this one later this eve Wink
