Just out of interest - could she play for Sweden if she lived there long enough to get naturalised or citizenship or whatever?

I know the Olympics committee seem to have "unusual" rules about nationality etc Rolling Eyes

But this is Football so FIFA rules apply, and they are very clear. Solo is over 21 and have played for USWNT senior-team so she can't play international for anyone else.

so is Hope Solo now back in favour with the new coach .....

She was never out of favor with the new coach, just the old. She was invited to their current camp, with the other two who were at the WWC, if it's between those three I'd have to assume she'll get her starting role back.

Shame she can't go back to Sweden Sad

Pia isn't stupid , she'll surely put Solo back in the starting line up if they want to get to the Olympics. Scurry is just too slow with no kicking ability at all.

I bet G/K was on the phone with her right after they heard she had to fly home alone, they probably had a good chance there for awhile. But after Ryan got the boot they kind of lost their opportunity. And she probably won't be back since the US league will start a few months after the Olympics. And from what I hear about it there is a good chance G/K will loose Schelin to the US league because of their connection to FC Indiana which is affilated with the soon to be Chicago based professional team which could have Solo allocated to their team from the USWNT. Okay, the last part about Solo a made up (not the Schelin part), but I think that's the closes she'll get to being back in the Swedish league.

hey bud we can look at the bright side

solo is back in the team!!!!

she was on the 5 day trainingkamp!!!!!

do you guys think this means she's back for good???

is it because of a too big program off the us team?

There is also a good video about her dad on Youtube, it's a pretty crazy story.

She was also apparently seriously being recruited to go back to Sweden but:

Swedish club Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC has given up trying to sign Solo for next season as the USA's preparations for the 2008 Olympics would have made it difficult for the goalkeeper to compete in the Swedish league.

and a year later thee is the new wusa

HLF,

USWNT, including H. Solo, don't play in Euro leagues because they make more training with the USWNT, and the USWNT does not want them to play in Europe because there is no benefit for them.

She won't go back to Sweden because, you are right, after the Olympics (a year or so) the new US league will start.

Yes, I think she is back for good on the team. Pia wants to start over and she doesn't seem stupid. Of the three goalies at camp Solo is probably still the best.

US beats Canada 4-0 in Four Nations tournament; China defeats Finland
AP - 2 hours 12 minutes ago
GUANGZHOU, China - Hope Solo made her return to the U.S. women's soccer team in a 4-0 win over Canada in Wednesday's opening game of the Four Nations Tournament in southern China.

my Rodriguez _ making her international debut _ and Linsday Tarpley scored two goals each for the Americans.
Goalkeeper Hope Solo was back between the posts, having been out of the team since last year's World Cup, when she made strong criticism of the decision to bench her for the semifinal.

She played the full game Wednesday, making two saves.

The first half was scoreless, despite an attacking American squad that had nine shots on goal to the Canadians' four. But Canada's defense unraveled in the second half after forward Rodriguez scored from close range in the 51st minute.

Rodriguez converted a penalty in the 65th, and midfielder Tarpley shot home from eight yards in the 71st. Tarpley struck again in the 78th, putting the ball into the bottom right corner.

In the second game, China defeated Finland 2-0. Defender Li Jie headed in a cross in the 21st, and Liu Yali scored from inside the box two minutes before half time.

The tournament continues Friday when China plays Canada, and the Americans take on Finland

Hope Solo: The greatest goalkeeper in US Soccer
Roberto Carlos Alvarez-galloso, 02 March 2008, Sunday

Hope Solo deserves an honourable mention in this article. Her best role as goalkeeper was off the field - she forgave her father for divorcing her mother when she was just 6! It takes a lot of courage to continue playing in spite of such losses.

ONE OF the best goalkeepers in the world is Hope Solo of the United States women’s soccer team. Hope Solo was born Hope Amelia Solo on July 30, 1981 in Richland, Washington. Hope Solo started her career in high school and college before playing for the United States Women’s football [soccer] team. During her high school and college years with the Richland High School Bombers and the University of Washington Huskies, she scored 109 goals, was a four-time All-PAC Selection and a three time NSCAA All American. Hope Solo was also named the Parade All American. It was during this period that she switched to goalkeeping.

Hope Solo made her debut with the United States Women’s soccer [football] team in the year 2000 with her first shut-out against Mexico and first appearance against Iceland. In the year 2005, Hope Solo was the goalkeeper in three of the four games played by the United States in the Algarve Cup and earned shut-outs in all of the four games. In the United States [2005], Hope Solo was able to start nine games and earn seven shut-outs. In the year 2006, Hope Solo had a record of 1,054 minutes without allowing a goal which was demolished by a goal conceded to France in the Algarve Cup. The sorry state of having to concede a goal was starting three of the four games and earning two shut-outs in the Algarve Cup in 2006 which was also not the best of times for Hope Solo. Regardless, Hope Solo was able to play in the Four Nations Tournament in China by starting three matches and earning three shut-outs in the same year.

The year 2007 saw the participation of Hope Solo in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in which she was able to start ten games, earn five shutouts while going to the finals. Regardless, Hope Solo was able to prove that she was the greatest goalkeeper by being able to remain calm, cool and collected under pressure. Hope Solo was also a goalkeeper for the Philadelphia Charge, Kopparsberg Goteberg FC and Olympique Lyonnais during her career as goalkeeper.

Her best role as goalkeeper was off the field as she was able to forgive her father for divorcing her mother when she was six years old. It takes a lot of courage to do this and it took a lot of courage to be close to her father in spite of his drinking and being homeless until his death in 2007. It also took a lot of courage to continue playing in spite of such losses. It is for this reason that I consider Hope Solo the best goalkeeper in the world.

Actually she kicked Drew Carrey's (American comedian who loves soccer) ass. She's apparently really, really good at FIFA 2006 (or something like that). Abby Wambach got beat pretty bad and she was really not enjoying it (competitive at everything type). It was on some Studio 90 video, that was actually pretty entertaining as I remember.
