In general, and I'm not just talking about football here, the USA wants the world to believe they're the best at everything, and I like seeing them pulled down a peg or two Wink
But, when their men play England's men at football, I'm 100% behind USA.
Mind you - I'm 100% behind any team that plays agains England's men Very Happy

It probably all boils down to my hatred of arrogance.

Very weak reasoning. USWNT are a great football team with history behind them,
and they deserve nothing but respect for what they've done for women's football worldwide.

And from what I've been reading elsewhere, some USA players and ex-players are pulling others to pieces - they can't accept defeat without blaming someone.

Just like when England men get knocked out of a WC - I can even remember who they blamed as far back as 1970.

True, not the best time to say good stuff about them easily Rolling Eyes

Still - what they've done in the past, deserves some respect,
and you wanted them to lose even before the Sologate.

I've not had a chance to absorb all that has been written about Hope etc elsewhere, but it seems I wasn't that far off in my judgement of the US.

They had gone unbeaten for 51 games I believe, so - someone has to be blamed when it doesn't reach 52, but they seem to prefer to blame someone who didn't even play Shocked

I know my dislike isn't totally accepted here, but maybe you can see why I feel that way now - I honestly did expect them to tell the world how superior they are, or blame someone if it turned out they weren't.

And, if Hope was denied a bronze medal - how nasty can anyone get?

I have posted here rather than WC section etc, as I've missed a lot, and even missed the final - I'd recorded it while I was travelling and watching another game, Arsenal at Liverpool, and tried to avoid seeing the result.

Then saw Pat51 say when goals from game I went to would be on Sky Sports News - at 10 minutes before the hour. I put it on, and got WC result (and brief highlights) straight away, followed by Arsenal game. So I didn't really read everything else - no point until I watched my recording of the final - and, tba, can't be arsed now.

I didn't record the 3rd place play-off, (losers' game, as a lot say,) but it seems that I'd have been upset if I'd watched it - not because US won, but because of their team's attitude

But - I wish teams could accept defeat when they lose without blaming someone.
Especially if they blame someone who didn't even play.

And - I might be wrong - but didn't the 3 big names of ex-US players - Hamm, Foudy and Chastain poke their noses in a bit much?

Wow......... I was away from the forum for so long, and I just now happened to stumble on this (old news) topic, and I'm a bit surprised about how the US team and it's members are viewed.....

I will say that Foudy is bit of a 'loose cannon', so thats one statement that I can agree on..... Wink

We were all angry at how Solo was dropped all of a sudden and the poor showing by Scurry just proved are point. If I remember rightly it went on for months. Some of us emailed US soccer demanding Ryan be sacked , and thankfully he was.

I couldn't agree with you more. It was obvious in the games leading up to the Solo incident that Ryan's style was getting dull and lacking, as if he had run out of ideas. So, to see that his 'first idea' was to swap keepers in the most crucial game he had ever coached in was a shock............... and, even more, a disaster in more ways than one........... Confused

Welcome back, smithy !! Wink

Thanks Orange Smile

I did hear that Kristine Lilly got a rough ride by fans back in the US because of her leadership skills or lack of in that semi.
