Solid professional win.

Senderos was impeccable, Cesc had his fun, Hleb looked even better on the left and van Persie reminded me so much of Dennis Bergkamp.

But Steaua really impressed me. They played it around confidently from kick off and created some great chances early on. They were quite hard to break down as well because they worked so hard to get deep. But the lads knew that they were straining their entire Midfield each time they pushed that little extra from kick-off and Arsenal kept it patient. Then of course as the game went on Steaua started to tire, cramp set in and Arsenal breezed the ball around the pitch even more - it was only a matter of time before Adebayor opened them up and squared for the Dutchmaster to grab the three points with a powerful first time curler past the Keeper.

No injuries and Hleb looked physically grand so all is good.

Just a bad note on Clichy, who had a nightmare in his own little game. Didn't do much right on the night and it's quite worrying, I just hope he hasn't started getting a little complacent considering the fact that only young underrated Traoré is his real competition.

Steaua looked unlucky not to score. But i'm judging that on brief highlights, so i can't really comment on who deserved what from the fixture.

The power of highlights, eh?

Steaua had two or three good chances, whereas we controlled the game and pressed their goal throughout. Deserved and comfortable job done in the end.

I wasn't too unhappy with Clichy. He made a mistake or two, but is very fast and skilful - very similar to Cashley when he was at Arsenal.

Traoré is going to be very good before long, so Clichy can't be too complacent.

And if it does come to the worst, I suppose Flamini could always fill that spot again.

Got the job done...

And that's all that matters in the group phase

The commentator on ITV4 (early during the game) said Steua had never had lost at home to an English team in Champs league, as had Real Madrid until Arsenal won there season before last Wink
We reached final then - an omen maybe?

I would put myself out here and say Traoré is slightly better than Clichy. He is extremly quick (as we well know) but also has one hell of a cross. He was fantastic in the Newcastle game.

He was brilliant in last years Carling Cup.

It's good to have such cover at the left back position.

Eboue had a bad one.

I disagree that Traoré is better than Clichy. He has bigger potential, but certainly nowhere near him at the moment.

I disagree with twmcat as well. I thought it was a terrible performance by Clichy last night. He ran the line poorly, passed it poorly, crossed it poorly and let the opposition get goal-side of him far too easily. Of course he has pace and skill, but he made so many basic errors on the night and some of his dodgy back passes to Almunia were scary.

There have been a few games this season where he has lost his rhythm of form. I just hope he gets back on track.

Although, on another note: Senderos was oustanding again and Almunia was excellent. So potential weak spots are standing out as very strong spots.

van Persie reminded me so much of Bergkamp in the way he played. The dropping off, the simple & cool control+pass, the disguised passes and the intelligent positioning. He also took a few knocks that were very unecessary and he didn't react like a petulant child - we all know Robin has had a temper, but he's been super cool as of late and it's a very good sign (which has been the same for all the young players e.g. Eboué, Cesc etc.)

Great to see Gilberto come on as well. He made a great impact in Midfield and that just shows the depth in quality we have.

i think we controlled the match well enough without the kind of play when we beat Sevilla 3-0 a few weeks back . Steau did work hard and had a few chances of their own , Toure doing well to head away from the goal after Almunia had come out to clear ..that would have been a bad goal to let in for sure .

Senderos was indeed excellent ....he does worry me though on occasions like last season when he really cost us by sloppy defending . Clichy seems to be having a bad run lately , made a few bad errors that might have cost us had Almunia not been alert to the situation .

I thought Alexandre (he has no chance of playing tuesday) Hlebb played well , amazing recovery really ... Wink and a great goal by Van Persie ..did think we were gonna have to settle for the draw .

Silly booking for Adebayor for kicking the ball in the gaol after the whistle had gone , the ref seemed to clamp down on that sort of thing and dissent in the match .

So another 4 points and we should be through .. Cool

They've another jersey which I thought was going to be their European kit - it is dark red and blue hoops and, unfortunately, very nice.
