Crystal Palace have sacked manager Peter Taylor.
A brief statement on the club website announced that his contract had been terminated with immediate effect.
The Championship side have taken 10 points from their first 10 games of the season but have only won one of their last 10 league and cup outings.
Taylor had been in charge at Selhurst Park since the summer of 2006, having ended a four-year spell at Hull to take over at Palace.
As recently as June, Eagles chairman Simon Jordan had insisted to BBC Sport that he was happy with Taylor - and had made the right decision to keep faith with him, despite a poor run of results last season.
Since 2004, Taylor had combined club management with his second spell of coaching England's Under-21 side but relinquished the international role in January 2007 to concentrate on his club duties.
As well as Palace and Hull, he also managed Southend, Dover Athletic, Gillingham, Leicester and Brighton.
He also had a one-match spell as caretaker manager of the full England team in November 2000.
That match, a 1-0 defeat by Italy, was the first occasion when midfielder David Beckham was handed the captain's armband. |
This has been coming for a while IMO.
Who next for Palace?
