Definitely will see a few shocks.

That group B is a tough one. Benin qualified ahead of Togo, whilst Côte d'Ivoire are probably the strongest team in the competition then Nigeria are always a force.

Another host final I reckon, Ghana V Côte d'Ivoire, with the Ivorians to win it.

many people see these competitions as north africa v west africa...the north african teams are very good technically and posses good skillfull players whereas the west african teams rely on raw pace and strength...seing as the last 2 editions have been won by north african nations will it be the west africans oppertunity to get back on track?

Certainly.

I thought Egypt were lucky in the competition last year. Yes, technically they were good but more than often they struggled in the best parts of games.

However, the home advantage was massive and I think that will happen again with Ghana.

But Côte d'Ivoire are very, very strong and they're all improved. You have the two Tourés playing at the highest levels, and Drogba with a point to prove - possibly even out to show his best in hope to attract a big Club to sign him. Then you've got the raw pace of guys like Eboué and Zokora.

Should be a good tournament. Lots of competition this year.

do not forget that there is a real possibilty that yaya and samuel eto'o might not be present at this competition. and never count ou the moroccans either who when on their day can beat anyone in this competition..depend on which moroco turns up...henri michel is their manager now and may be vital to their chances.

African nations is always brilliant to watch. you realise that there are so many talented players that go un-noticed when watching.

i think the qualifiers will be:-

group a -- ghana & morocco
group b -- nigeria & cote d'ivoire
group c -- egypt & cameroon
group d -- south africa & senegal

these would be my group qualifiers:

Group A:

1.Ghana
2. Morocco

Group B:

1. Cote D'ivoire
2. Nigeria

Group C:

1. Cameroon
2. Egypt

Group D:

1. Tunisia
2. Senegal

My bet is on Cote d'ivoire and Ghana.
Is Kalou European or African?

Group D for the hardest one to predict.
Mali in group B is a potential shock.

Most of french players are from Africa, still play for France. That makes them Europeans.
I remember reading somewhere Van Basten wanted Kalou in the dutch team, and he wasn't at the world cup with Ivory Coast. That makes me wonder.

Kalou is from the Ivory Coast, but did try to get naturalisation as a Dutch citizen to play for Holland as he had never represented his home Country. This was rejected.

All I can say is the fear of THE SUPER EAGLES is the begining of succsess which means never write off the SUPER EAGLES of Nigeria

potencial groupe qualifiers

Group A Ghana and Guinea I dont see Morrocco going through , the Noth Africans have never done well in west Africa and Guinea are in very good form right now the other teams in this group may not be able to deal with thier skill.

Group B Nigeria and Ivory coast , Mali will have a lot to say on who gose through but I think that is as far as they will be able to go .

Group C this is one groupe that will be a bit difficult to call Egypt might squeeze though along with Cameroon but with Zambia and Sudan peaking in form and Cameroon deeping in form the groupe is wide open and anything can happen

Group D I will give this group to Senegal and Tunisa , Senegal becouse they seem the strongest on paper and angola and south Africa are just not Nations cup marterial and dont seem to have the pedigree to handel Senegal and Tunisa
This is my prediction for the group faze of the turnament .

With the winner of groupe A meeting the runners up of groupe B and vis va sa Ghana will have to contend with eather Nigeria of Ivory coast I dont see Ghana beating any of these two teams the cup wiiner is between Mali , Ivory cost Guienie and Nigeria

I haven't seen any African teams play since the last WC, so i can't claim to be an expert on their current state. However, based on the number and quality of players they have in European clubs, i think the Ivory Coast and Ghana are the favourites, with some traditional teams like Tunisia, Nigeria and Egypt always in with a chance.
