Arsenal 7-0 Slavia |
|
Wenger predicted that it could be a tricky one.
In fact, I thought it'd be a hard fought win for us - maybe a 2-0 or 2-1. But 7-0 just takes the biscuit. The whole team were utter class. Playing football from another planet and attacking football that you just have to laugh at, it's so good. Theo was excellent as well, and looked more at home in his natural position. Pity he didn't get the hattrick, he had a couple of great chances to get the 3rd, one in which the Keeper pulled off a World-class save. |

Ive not seen any of the game but I thought it would be a certain win for the Gunners, I didn't think Arsenal would have scored so many though. I transfered Toure in to my fantasy team as I thought Arsenal had the best chance of keeping a clean sheet out of all of the teams that played tonight. Walcott is inspired at the moment it seems

I was watching Kiev-United so missed this one but i saw a strong Arsenal win on the cards due to their superb form and the weakness of their opposition. Sounds to me like the football was again first class and they took their chances well. Congratulations... enjoy it while it lasts

To be fair, everybody will get over excited per usual with the young English starlet.
The commentator must have said "English" about 400 times during the game. Yes mate, we had an English player starting and he's not a bad player. Tonight Theo did well. It was an excellent debut Champions League start though because he showed confidence and maturity. It's excellent from his usual standards and he delivered as well. Two well taken goals and a superb assist for Cesc. Although there were spells of play where he was like a puppy chasing a bouncy ball and that shows that he's not yet ready to really stamp his feet down into the First XI. Bendtner showed more experience and class in the ugly parts of the game which helps so much - something that Adebayor does expertly these days. But of course the credit will go to the pacey, skillful goalscorer 9 times out of 10. I'm not discrediting Walcott, just hoping that the praise he receives isn't God-like nonsense. The best player on the park had to be Alex Hleb until he was subbed off. Cesc was Cesc - there's no point rating him really, he's basically always fantastic and some of his play tonight was of World-class quality. Again, I'll stay clear of calling him World-class because I'd prefer not to hear idiots like JeZZlee starting Cesc V Kaká threads. If I came out of a deep sleep and watched Cesc for the first time tonight, I'd laugh at you if you told me he was only 25, never mind 20! It's a great record breaking result for us, because it shows our class and our ability exhibition style - whilst it really boosts our confidence and the confidence of certain players, like Walcott, Bendtner and Hleb who have something to prove this season. |

Argh! Wenger's only 58.. we have at least 15 more years of these insatiable Wenger-lead Gunners.
The only critisism you could have is that sometimes they were too fancy, but i'm sure that was more to do with the fact hey were 5, 6 and 7-0 up and could afford to toy with Slavia. Who's the lucky team who gets to play them this weekend then?.. |

Wouldn't say we were too fancy. When Rosický came on, he passed more than he should of maybe, with a few fancy flicks that didn't work. But then he banged the crossbar with a blistering shot once he realised the flicks weren't working.
I've seen us play much fancier football in 0-0s. In fact, the crazy 0-0 at the Emirates last season VS Hamburg was much more fancy. Tonight, we shot, shot, shot, shot, shot, shot, shot and scored, scored, scored, scored, scored, scored, scored. |

Well, i was primarily watching the Rangers - Barcelona match with the Arsenal one on in the room too, so i'm not the best judge. It just seemed at times when i did turn and watch Arsenal i found myself thinking they took a pass too many when shooting would have been a better option. But a lot of that was when they were either 6 or 7-0 up i believe.
In any case, they're much more clinical than last season; that cannot be debated. |

Well I said before the start of the season Arsenal were going to destroy everyone.

If I knew, I would not waste my time watching boring Rangers playing with 10 defenders at home. Going to get this game later |

Rangers were the defensive equivalent of Arsenal's offensive masterclass.. sort of..

Arsenal were so lucky. Slavia Prague only needed 8 goals, and they would've won.
But seriously, Arsenal were stunning. Some of the goals were jaw dropping. The build up to Fabregas' second was out of this world, and it was the same with Walcott's second as well. That one had a stunning finish to go with it. Hleb's goal was class as well. I thought Almunia put in a very good display too. I really can't understand why Lehmann is moaning. You can't drop Almunia at the moment. |

I wouldn't read too much into this result. Slavia Prague were awful. Their poor young team suffered from stage fright. Great goals and build up play, but the opposition didn't get anywhere near tight enough to Arsenal's players.
Slavia Prague are UEFA Cup standard - I hope we meet them in the later rounds...actually, maybe not Walcott looked good - far better than he did in that under-21 international in Ireland. |

Im happy for Walcott... All he needs now is to bulk up a tiny bit and he'll be ready imo

That's not the point - point was marios could have watched it.
It's like me watching Chelsea - Middlesbrough when the derby was on and having the facilities to watch it both. How about posting something constructive about the actual topic Steely? |

well i disagree somewhat with your opinion that Slavia Prague were awful , i thought for long periods Slavia Prague harassed us on the ball and never let us get too confortable with our passing game . We had to work on our passing game , going back and then forward , over to the left wing then back to the middle , then over to the right ..trying to get that opening for a possible goal chance . Of course the first goal by Walcott was a bad error by the keeper which he finished superbly well . The own goal from Hlebbs shot was just one of those unlucky moments for a defender . All the other goals were the result of either individual skill or superb build up play and superb finishing . I agree that Slavia Prague could have closed us down a bit more , but they had a few chances themselves and when they did have the ball they were quite comfortable with their passing ...that to me shows they have quality . Last night it was a case of Arsenal just playing superb football and showing what they can do when everything clicks into place . Who thought Man Utd would put 7 past Roma last year ...sometimes everything just clicks and the goals start coming and coming . Of course i dont expect us to have as easy a game against Liverpool and Man Utd , that will be our first real test this season .... |
