steely i must say,, everything you have said in this thread is complete dross. how you can say scotland dont have an ouce in defence is beyoned me... arent scotland the team who have kept 2 clean sheets against the world cup runners up (france) in this campaign?? including one in france?? i rest my case. you just seem very anti-scotland and its sad mate

France are never sharp in the qualification part, they couldnt beat Israel the last campagin and yet the same team finished 2nd in the world cup.

three players marking a bloke taking a throw in is hardly what i would call defending.

you rest your case by using two games? interesting logic. no doubt mcfadden is world class then on the back of those two games as well?

im not anti-scotland, im anti-whingeing.

so basically you are telling me that scotland have a good solid defence?

Laughing

and im the one talking dross!? lord give me strength

im not saying scotland have a world class defence, cause they dont. and yes their defending from the italy goals was poor...but to say they dont have an ounce in defence is harsh in my opinion. san marino dont have an ounce in defence, scotland do. they dont have any world beaters at the back, but they defend as a team. Since smith and mcleish have taken over i think scotland have been good at the back, which is why we have had such a good campaign.

it doesnt matter if they are never sharp in qualification...they always seem to qualify dont they? they still have several world class players in their team during qualification and for a team to keep 2 clean sheets against them, including one in their own back yard, must have something about them when it comes to defending! surely?! Im not saying scotland have an amazing defence but to keep out the likes of ribery, nasri, trezeguet, anelka etc. then surely they are due more credit than steely is giving thm.

In 1999 for the qualification of the euro 2000 :

France 2-3 Russia
France 0-0 Ukraine
Island 1-1 France

The last match was France 3-2 Island and Trezeguet scored at the end of the match while Ukraine scored at the end the match in Moscou and made a draw against Russia.

France 21
Ukraine 20
Russia 19

But we've won the euro. Smile

And in 2004 when we've won all the matchs of our qualification group, we only went to quarter final.

And it's true, in 2006 we had problems to qualify in our group, we made a lot of draw and Zidane, Thuram and Makelele had to come back in 2005 after their retirement in 2004. But we were world cup finalist. Smile

I'm not gonna complain about the referreeing because I actually thought that minus the decision at the end, he did okay.

What I will complain about though is the Italian attitude on the field, it's pathetic to be honest. They dive constantly every time anyone comes close to them and they feel that their possession is under threat, just to get a free-kick and relieve pressure. It's not just one of two players, it's near enough the whole team that does it and it's so frustrating to watch so I can't really imagine what it is like to play against them.

Also every corner or set piece where the ball is going to come into the box, the Italian's ALWAYS have their arms around the opposition and it's so blatant aswell. Now I know that this happens a lot at various teams but the worst cases I've seen have been from Italian teams e.g. Roma, Pannuci should wait until the end of games to get players shirts. I mean, it's common knowledge that some Italian people have had some 'special' feelings for members of the same sex throughout history but all this hugging, touching and groping is ridiculous.

You can see further examples of their petulent, annoying attitudes when they start to use time-wasting tactics by refusing to pick up the ball at throw-in's when it is right beside them and instead wait for the ball boy to throw them a new one. Or when the opposition want to take a free-kick and they stand in front of the ball and stall every single time even though the referee is standing there and hasn't blown his whistle, they have to be told to move time and time again. And if that wasn't enough, they feign injury and then take ages to get off the pitch and when the referee finally ushers them off they miraculously recover and are ready to come back on. And if that wasn't enough, they walk over to be substituted like they have arthritis in all their joints and that's only if they haven't pretended that they don't see their number and look around obliviously for a few moments....

Italian attitude in football pretty much makes my bloody boil, it's so petty and feminine. I hope they just shut down Serie A someday after another few people are killed and more match fixing is exposed, it's for the best.

compliments!
compliments for your mental limits, did you know that the great britain empire had fallen? did you know that every nation has his playing method? dont you like it? who cares!
how many times has passed since mighty england doesnt win a world cup with magnificent, eroic and very british methods, with the aid of the LEGENDARY british fairplay, with superheroes instead of players who flyes over the field instead of run?
I cant wait until european cup, probably we will encounter mighty england ( if they qualificate) and we will give european kicks.. Its gonna be amusing to read comments like these in that occasion, poor losers

cheated? di natale's gol regular, scotland scored in offside

3-0 could have been more appropriate

Convenient. The free-kick for Italy's second was an unbelievable decision. One of the worst i've ever seen. Such idiocy should be treated with the death penalty.

So there was that goal, the Italian's disallowed goal that should have stood, and the Scots could have had a penalty, making the score 2-2. Scotlands goal was touch-and-go.

this is the british fairplay, everyone on TV during the match,,italian speakers, were destroying my balls on it, "we should learn from them , and blablabla...... FUKK THEM!
I like the way I am, if this is british fairplay, always crying and accusing others if the team supported lose, searching excuses and attacking the referee EVEN if we had 1 regular goal not seen and your goal was in offside.
show respect and learn some fairplay, bad losers

*sigh* Dumb Italian f*ck. Like you'd have been happy if you'd have gone out. Yeh right. It's so easy to say all that on the back of winning.

another racist insult, it happens often i see
someone can ban this motherfukker?

yeah i'm happy, because at least my teams win important matches, england had to support israel to continue, and Liverpool is almost out of the Champions League

No. Me including the word 'Italian' does in no way make it racist - "Italian" isn't a derogatory term. "Dumb f*ck" may be, but that has no relation to race. I could quite easily have called you a "Dumb Human f*ck". It is but a noun. Either you are overly sensitive, or you need a dictionary.

Please, don't waste yourself on trying to get to me with puerile attempts as "england had to support israel to continue, and Liverpool is almost out of the Champions League" - you are wasting yourself. Even if there may not be much to waste.

If i was racist, it would be none of your business. If i was racist, i'd have every right to that choice. If...

In any case, let's not get this into another slanging match. If you really must, the PM function works quite competently the last time i tried it.

oh my god, it was a wonderful victory !!
for the first time donadoni's team has convinced myself
this is the right formation with 2 fast and technical wingers (i hope it's right Razz ) like camoranesi and di natale and a striker who can be toni or gila
the referee and the linesmen were terrible, di natale's gol was right, scottish gol was offside, and the free kick for italy was a foul OF chiellini and not ON chiellini
but the scottish journalists who say "robbery" maybe were drunk Laughing
for 65 minutes i've seen a great italy, who suffered only on korner kick and free kick
the men of the match were camoranesi, ambrosini and barzagli IMO
scotland was unlucky to stay in this group, i think if they were in greece group or in portugal group they would have passed easily

whatever is argued about over the result ...qualification was over 12 matches . Scotland were in a tough group ...maybe the toughest ...dropped points against Ukraine and Georgie proved costly in the end .

Ultimately bad defending cost Scotland against Italy ....in the first few minutes and the last few minutes ...so the free kick was a shocking decision ...that is all it was ...a free kick ...Scotland still had a chance to make sure nothing came of it ....and they didnt ... yes ..very hard luck on them , but thats football for you ...it can be very cruel sometimes .

Agreed.

Italy were more deserving of the victory anyway. They scored two legitimate goals and actually tried to knock the ball about, whereas Scotland adopted a "if it moves, kick it" approach, although to be fair they also moved the ball about quite well at times.

A lot has been made of bad refereeing decisions in this game; I thought Scott Brown could easily have been sent off for persistent fouling. He's a thug.

It's his nickname. I think it's to do with his running style. Asked on the Celtic forum and no one knew for definite. One of life's great unsolved mysteries. A bit like the Mary Celeste

I can see why you'd say that, but i'm not so sure. Personally i think it's quite evident Scotland raised their game for France and Italy, resulting in 6 points against the French - whereas they lost to Georgia and Ukraine. In any case, i'm sure they must have been more motivated because of the group they were in.

Northern Ireland are another example. Wins against Sweden and Spain and then they go and lose twice to Iceland and once to Latvia.

Whether the two would have put in as superb performances as they have in a weaker group remains to be seen - especially in a group they may start in thinking they could actually escape from.
