Why the rolleyes Gobati?

I'd be surprised if anyone answered Olympiakos. They've completely dominated Greek football over the last decade (not always on the merit of their own strength, but that's another story), but have always been crap in Europe. Their win against Werder was their first away win in 32 games!

Panathinaikos in Europe:

1971: European Champions' Cup Final vs Ajax (see my avatar)
1985: European Champions' Cup Semi-Finals vs Liverpool
1988: UEFA Cup Quarter-Finals vs FK Bruge
1992: European Champions' Cup Quarter-Finals
1996: Champions League Semi-Finals vs Ajax
[2001: UEFA (IFFHS) announces PAO as best team in the world for September 2001]
2002: Champions League Quarter-Finals vs Barcelona
2003: UEFA Cup Quarter-Finals vs Porto

OK Cool it's just that rolling your eyes usually denotes annoyance, disagreement or even sarcasm. That's why i had to ask.

Amazing, I'm the first one to pick Olympiakos..

IMO Panathinaikos was the better team in the 90's and the start of the 00's but Olympiakos have been more visible the last couple of years..

And how does that give them a better reputation?

Panathinaikos have had good teams in European competitions in every decade since the 70s. Olympiakos have never achieved anything in Europe.

You can't even compare the two in this respect. If the comparison was strictly about domestic titles then i'd see your point (even if half of their recent titles were bought and not earned).

Ok, if I've to think it over again, I remember youre right about the last decades.. But IMO Olympiakos has the better reputation due to things such as the times Arsenal have played Panathinaikos, there have been bad atmosphere, and due to Jan Michaelsen who I simply hate. I'm sure you remember him. Rene Henriksen was cool though.. And credit to Panathinaioks for beating fc copenhagen in this years UEFA cup - not because they are good but because their defeat makes my day.. Laughing Laughing

But still I'll pick Olympiakos over Panathinaikos.. It's just how I feel, and football is about feelings you know..

ok Marios enough with all that crap about the final against Ajax...everyone in Greece knows how u got there...and how Domazos (the biggest star of the team back then for those that don't know) played in the second leg of the semi-final against Red Star Beligrad although he was banned...Panathinaikos had the backing of the political situation in Greece back then...they figured that sports is a good way to keep ppl from rebelling so we have to give 'em sth to occupy them...and since the man in charge of the whole situation was a fan of the team he did what he had to do.....Just because u r in a foreign forum doesn't mean u can say whatever u want...The only truth is that due to lack of training doing well in both the championship and Europe is hard for Greek clubs...that is the main reason why pao hasn't been taking any championships the last ten years and also why olympiakos hasn't done anything in Europe...everyone makes his choices...e.x.: do u see olympiakos this year? one step away from the next face in the cl but sucks in the Superleague...

Your president, Kokkalis, is one of the biggest crooks in the history of Greece (not unlike Koskotas, except he is smart enough not to get caught) and everyone knows he bought at least half of Olympiakos' titles in the last decade. So YOU don't come in an international forum and say whatever you want, because our supposedly "shady" history is old, while yours is brand new.

And before you say no-one can prove you bought some of your recent titles let me remind you that the same goes for our good European run of 1971.

Also, i see you chose to ignore the fact we also had good teams in Europe in the 80s, 90s and early 00s. Who helped us then?

Typical "gavros".

I am torn - From what you are saying it seems i have to admit Panathinaikos have the better reputation outside of Greece.

But i live in Greece, and must say it is obvious here that Olympiakos are the greater team with higher level of skill (discounting their terrible recent performance in Champions League, of course!)

Confused

Which Greek club has a better name in Europe???
