Under torrential rain the mighty Norn Iron clawed back a 1-0 deficit to win the match 2-1 thanks to a beautiful 80th minute Healy chipped-shot.

With Spain winning 3-0 at home to Sweden, the chances are slim. They would have preferred a Sweden victory that'd leave the game against Spain as the decider. As it happens, it is out of their hands.

Sweden need just a point against Latvia to secure qualification, and Northern Ireland still would need to beat Spain for the second time in this campaign. The chances are more than slim in fact, but at least they're still in with a shout on the final day - that's a great achievement.

Can they defeat all odds and make the tournament finals?

They are banking on a miracle from Latvia. Looking at it, Sweden only beat them 1-0, but that was in Latvia..

I saw bits and pieces of this game and was surprised it went ahead - the pitch was waterlogged and holding up the ball in places.

Brilliant result for the Northern Irish though, and a new record set by Healey.
It is a big ask for them to get through, but stranger things have happened (Israel beating Russia for example, after being pounded throughout)

Memories of the Gerry Armstrong winner in Espana '82 perhaps!

Edit: Forev you plank, did you forget your "own" team were playing?!

You wouldn't catch me dead near a stadium/tv where this shower were playing at, sorry.

I'd have to kill myself before the first "We're Ulster 'til we die!".

Good luck to them though.

HEALY!

Spain are through, they can sit back and relax.

Sweden have really gone down in form, cant understand why they have been so bad in recent years.
Likely to be nervous, like Russia. Latvia has some ok players and a goal difference which reads -1.
Sounds like they had a few close matches on average.

Anything can happen.

You're right mate as in it was Suker, but the previous record was 12...

Healy's superb winner at Windsor Park helped him overtake Croatia's Davor Suker's record of 12.

Congrats to Healy for beaking the record!

It would be great if a small nation like Northern Ireland made the finals, but as others have said it would take a miracle as Sweden would have to commit harakiri for that to happen.
