Marseille - Liverpool |
|
Marseille have 6 victories in 6 matchs against the English teams at the Vélodrome, but Marseille have 21 points in Ligue 1, 3 points more than the first team which can be relegated. And Nasri was injuried and he will surely not play against Liverpool.

How did Marseille get on at the weekend?
I'll miss some of the match tomorrow, ive got my daughters Christmas play. I think it will be a tight game though. Rafa has got to put Crouch and Torres up-front as we need our best two strikers playing alongside eachother if we are to get the goals that will put us through. |

Arguably bigger than the Manchester United game with regards to long-term progression at the club.
My worry is that people are so focussed on what we have to do, that we have to win, but remember - Marseille are in a similar position.. they have to draw. They'll be hell-bent on not losing and could prove a really tough clash (even when on paper we're a long way ahead of them). My Team: -------------------------------Reina------------------------------- ------Arbeloa------Carragher------Hyypia-------Aurelio------- ----Benayoun------Gerrard------Mascherano----Kewell------- ----------------------Torres----------Kuyt----------------------- Subs: Itandje, Hobbs, Riise, Leiva, Babel, Voronin, Crouch. I'm not sure how Aurelio and Finan are doing fitness wise, but i'd go for Aurelio with Arbeloa on the other side if he's fit. I've been more impressed by the Brazilian to be honest, than Finnan. The back four to start against United should start here too, and that's who i'd have against them. I'm not sure if Agger can play, but even so, he hasn't been with us for so long so there's no chance of him being thrown in. That midfield is the best midfield we have fit in my opinion. Kewell again proved his worth when coming on against Reading and if he can get those agonisingly close shots to go in he'll be a great threat and contribute a fair few goals. He has to start more regularly, albeit i can understand Benitez wanting to ease him slowly back. I almost went for Leiva alongside Gerrard but quickly regrained from doing so: to not have Masch in a massive game like this would be asking for trouble. Only Pennant, Alonso and possibly Babel would push for a place (if fit), but none are massive improvements. I'm happy that that's a strong, balanced and creative midfield. Kuyt didn't feature against Reading and i expect him to do so here. I think throwing caution to the wind would be unwise, so a second striker would be my preference over two main strikers (i.e. Torres and Crouch). I'm slightly torn between him and Voronin though, but Kuyt has actually done quite well in Europe this year. I reckon both could play a role against Manchester United so it's difficult to anticipate. I'd have the other on the bench though - along with Crouch, who has shown to be better coming on anyway. He's had his starts and not quite lived up to expectation. That, other than Voronin/Crouch contending to partner Torres in a striking berth, is the side i would expect to line up against United. I think switching personnel in between this and that match may prove fruitless, as they have an unimportant tie in Rome and will likely rest all their players. We should try to find some edge over them though means of momentum, which should be achieved by keeping a same line-up. I expect us to win, but not easily. When do we ever in the cups? My Score: 1-2 Marseille to take the lead (32') and have us shocked, but become complacent thinking they've got it sealed. Us to come out and Gerrard (47') to combine with Benayoun and head us level, before Dirk Kuyt rifles a low shot from the edge of the area past the arms of the flailing Marseille 'keeper. Sending us into the crunch tie at the weekend on a high. Well i can hope.. |

Kewell has been seeded back into the team and his class will help create enough opportunities in this game to see Marseille off.
Just have to make sure you're tight at the back - which hasn't been the case lately. Keep Riise out as well, he's been a waste of space. |

There will be 2 860 supporters of Liverpool, the places that are not yet sold will not be sold. There will be 53 000 and the Vélodrome can have 60 000, it's for security.

Like that line up mate. Probably exactly what we need, babel off the bench late too. But rafa will probably start riise, one of his many fetishes sadly. Im a nervous wreck for this game already! Butterflies in my belly, well definately be getting up early in aus to watch it. I predict we will win, but we will win it late. 2-1 sounds most likely, scores level at halftime and a goal in the last 10 minutes will put us through. |

Lately? One game as in lately. The last league goal we conceded before the Reading game was against your boys back on the 28th of October. But we have conceded in the Champions League since then which was against Porto. We havnt been doing that bad but we have looked a bit shakey on occasions. I agree with you about Riise, I have to question his integrity at the moment. If he's in the team it will be a shocking decision from Rafa. |
