First 30 minutes was atrocious. Timmer played like a schoolboy in goal and combined with Mathijsen and his kamikaze defending it was a real nightmare. It wasn't until Bouma was put in along with Seedorf that they settled down a bit and started playing.

Can someone tell me what has happened to Boulahrouz? And, why Drenthe doesn't get a call-up? Marco needs to get some type of solidarity with his line-up, and I realize there are injuries but he always seems to have a mixed lineup of players from game to game. I hope it's all sorted out come the opening whistle at the Euro's.......

New year new coach new players:

Quote:
New Holland coach Bert van Marwijk has handed Mark van Bommel an international recall in his provisional squad for the friendly against Russia on August 20.

The Bayern Munich midfielder, who is also Van Marwijk's son-in-law, returns to the Oranje side two years after a fall-out with previous coach Marco van Basten.

Wilfred Bouma and Wesley Sneijder miss out on selection through injury while goalkeeper Edwin van der Saar and striker Ruud van Nistelrooy both retired from international football in the wake of Holland's quarter-final showing at Euro 2008.

Van Marwijk will name his definitive squad list for the match in Moscow on August 15.

Squad: Henk Timmer (Feyenoord), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax); Tim de Cler (Feyenoord), Nigel de Jong, Joris Mathijsen (both Hamburg), Andre Ooijer (Blackburn), John Heitinga (Atletico Madrid), Khalid Boulahrouz (Stuttgart), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Feyenoord); Ibrahim Afellay, Orlando Engelaar (Schalke), Demy de Zeeuw, Mark van Bommel (Bayern Munich), Rafael van der Vaart; Arjen Robben (both Real Madrid), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (Celtic), Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Dirk Kuyt (Liverpool), Robin van Persie (Arsenal).

Holland coach Bert van Marwijk has named an unchanged provisional squad for next month's World Cup qualifiers.

Holland take on Iceland in Rotterdam on October 11 before tackling Norway in Oslo four days later.

Van Marwijk has kept faith with the same 20-man party which earned a 2-1 win in their opening Group Nine qualifier in Macedonia.

The coach will name his final squad on October 3.

Holland squad: Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Henk Timmer (Feyenoord); Khalid Boulahrouz (Stuttgart), Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Tim de Cler (both Feyenoord), John Heitinga (Atletico Madrid), Joris Mathijsen (Hamburg), Andre Ooijer (Blackburn); Ibrahim Afellay, Mark van Bommel (Bayern Munich), Orlando Engelaar (Schalke), Nigel de Jong (Hamburg), Rafael van der Vaart (Real Madrid), Demy de Zeeuw; Ryan Babel, Dirk Kuyt (both Liverpool), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Real Madrid), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (Celtic).

I'm wondering when a new second keeper is going to be introduced. Van Marwijk surprisingly said (after the Holland - Australia friendly), 'Don't misunderstand me, I do respect Henk Timmer a lot. Because of his experience and passion he is a reliable stopper for Feyenoord, but he knows himself that he is not a top keeper. And the same goes for others in Holland'

Thats pretty candid and to the point. my question, when do they start training Vermeer or someone else as a second keeper. The WC is still a time off, it would seem now is the time to get a young keeper experience. Also, has Tim Krul fallen off the face of the earth or is out of form? As the Dutch U17, U20 keeper he was outstanding.....

Point being, there has to be someone else to take Timmer's spot, especially if Van Marwijk has come to this conclusion.......

Just to expound on Van Marwijk's comments in regards to Timmer not being a 'top keeper', Edwin van der Saar is returning to the Dutch side for there upcoming qualifiers....... see below......

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Saar has made a surprise return to the Holland squad.

The 37-year-old called time on his international career after Euro 2008 having earned 128 caps, but left the door open for a possible return, saying he would play if coach Bert van Marwijk needed him.

Now with Ajax keeper Maarten Stekelenburg injured, Van Marwijk has selected Van der Sar for both upcoming World Cup qualifiers, against Iceland on October 11 and Norway on October 15.
