I would be a little annoyed if a player said that about my Club, even if it was true.

Diarra was alright, but he doesnt have enough attacking verve to truely fit Arsenal. Even Flamini passes the ball better than him.

Well, whatever his future, Arsenal apparently paid £2m and sold him for £5.5 a few months later Wink

He is and always will be a solid defensive midfielder... tbh im glad the gooners have lost him. With Wengers guidance he actually could have become the next Viera.

Pompey have got a bargain at 5.5... not quite as good than the 2 the gooners paid for him.

I wreakon Big Harry will lose patience with him eventually and hell be off to spain in a year, nobody likes a [beep!] with an over-inflated ego

What performances of his have given you that idea? Im not doubting it just asking.

Myself ive only seen him play rightback and bitparts in midfield, I know hes supposed to be great but obviously two sets of coaches now havent seen enough in him to keep him on, maybe they see something we havent?

He isnt as physically gifted enough to be the next Viera.
You even agree by stating
"He is and always will be a solid defensive midfielder... " then compare him to one of the best EPL DMs ever?

If anything, he was in the mould of Makélélé with his ability to get in and nip away at people in the middle of the park, stealing the ball, making neat tackles and showing good quality in and around those areas.

As 91JMay said, his attacking qualities are limited and for most part he played in the "Cesc position" with a defensive Midfielder alongside him. That's not the right position for him as his distribution and creativity is lacking.

Flamini had that problem before and was just the 'work-horse' in the Midfield, which is why he struggled to break into the First XI. But he has since improved majorly on his passing, technique, creativity and attacking sense.

If anybody can be related to Vieira, then it's Abou Diaby who has all the raw potential to be a real star. He's got a big future in the Arsenal First XI if he can stay fit and establish himself in that Midfield role.

But that can only happen if Wenger begins to play him in the centre of the park. Until now he's spent 95% of his time on the pitch on the left. That's not the place to build a new PV4.. Anyways he will struggle to get into the starting XI if Flamster and Cesc continue their great partnership..

Of course. That's what I meant by "establish himself in that Midfield role". That role that Vieira sort of played in where he's central to everything. But in reality, Cesc does that job and nowadays he stamps authority, a control and a presence in there. But Diaby has the defensive attributes that made Vieira such a dominator. If he fights for Flamini's position, he can become a better player. This competition is great. Gilberto is only the teacher from now until he leaves I suppose, but the future is in Diaby.

Wenger Targeting Bosnian Dzeko Arsenal have confirmed that they are interested in signing young Bosnian Edin Dzeko from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

The 21 year old forward only joined Wolfsburg in the summer from FK Teplice and has hit five goals in twelve matches for Felix Magath’s side.

Even though Arsene Wenger claimed earlier that he wasn’t planning to make any moves in the January transfer window, he could be tempted to open the cheque book with Robin van Persie still struggling with fitness.

If not, then the Gunners may wait until the summer to renew their interest in the Bosnian.

Arsene Wenger’s right hand man, coach Boro Primorac, told Bosnian newspaper SAN: “We do follow Edin Dzeko. He is the kind of forward that could succeed in The Premiership.

“It is still not certain whether we’ll sign him, but his performance gets better every day and if you want to sign him you would need to pay good money.”

Dzeko has five international caps to his name after moving up from the U-21 side.

Wenger has a couple more days to make this deal. Hopefully he will now with Toure with a groin injury suffered at the Africa Nations Cup. This would definitely sure up our back-line and give us some really good cover in case of injuries in the back.

Title Rivals Keep Tabs On Lescott Speculation has surfaced suggesting that Everton defender Joleon Lescott is on the radar of both Manchester United and Arsenal...

Lescott (pictured) has become one of Everton's most valuable players in just 18 months since joining from Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers for a sizeable £5 million.

The versatile defender earned a place in Steve McClaren's England and, despite not enjoying his best performances, few doubt the talents of the 25-year-old.

In what is a slightly tenuous link, the News of the World reports that title rivals Arsenal and Manchester United are monitoring the Everton stopper's situation, as recent contract extensions for the likes of Tony Hibbert and Leon Osman have reportedly pushed the ex-Wolves man down the payment pecking order, much to his dismay.

Arsenal in particular are said to be interested in Lescott, with it even rumoured that Arsene Wenger had attempted to swoop for the defender when he initially ended up signing for Everton.

Where exactly the defender would fit in remains to be seen. Arsenal and Manchester United have two of the strongest back fours in world football - particularly in the centre, where Lescott is strongest - and though Manchester United have been reported to be seeking a right back as the long-term successor to their injury-plagued captain Gary Neville, Lescott not being a natural in Neville's position would surely mean he would not be top of Sir Alex Ferguson's wishlist.

Found it. Smile Looks like he'll be a summer target.

Arsenal Eye Dutch Goalkeeper Velthuizen Reports in the Netherlands suggest Vitesse Arnhem goalkeeper Piet Velthuizen is being targeted by Arsenal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is continuing to assess his options as far as goalkeepers go, and may turn to Dutch shotstopper Piet Velthuizen in a bid to strengthen his squad.

The Vitesse Arnhem No1 has been in impressive form this season and is rated as one of Europe's most promising up-and-coming goalkeeping talents.

The 21-year-old signed a new deal at Vitesse just before Christmas, meaning he's tied down until 2011, but they may not stop Arsenal from stumping up enough cash to break the contract.

Velthuizen had previously been linked with Dutch giants Feyenoord, but Arsenal scouts were spotted at Vitesse's ground yesterday as they played out a 2-2 draw with Ajax.

With Jens Lehmann all but certain to depart the Emirates in the summer Wenger knows he needs reinforcements to Almunia and Fabianski.

Vitesse Arnhem goalkeeper Piet Velthuizen insists he is not interested in a move away from the Gelredome.

The stopper has been linked with a transfer to a bigger club, with both Ajax and Arsenal being mentioned as possible destinations, after an impressive first half of the season.

But the 21-year-old, who recently signed a new deal at Vitesse keeping him at the club until 2011, claims he is happy to stay put.

He told De Gelderlander: "I have a good contract, why should I leave? In football nothing is certain though. But I am satisfied at Vitesse and as long as my agent Louis Laros hears nothing, nothing is really serious.

"One of the rumours that I keep on hearing is that I am a candidate to succeed Maarten Stekelenburg at Ajax. They are only rumours though. They don't mean anything to me."

On the speculation regarding Arsenal, Velthuizen added: "Everybody knows that Arsenal is a nice club.

"But for the time being I am under contract at Vitesse until 2011. I am doing well now and I hope to finish in the top nine with Vitesse. That's important to me. I am not worrying about other things."

Good to see Diaby extend his contract, and good to see Flamini coming out publicly stating that he wants to stay and a move away seems unlikely.

Quote:
Diaby Extends His Arsenal Stay, Flamini Wants To Abou Diaby has signed a new Arsenal contract - and Mathieu Flamini wants to, saying it is "his priority" to stay with the Gunners.

Two French midfielders who starred in Arsenal's 3-0 victory over Newcastle United on Tuesday night want to stay at the Premier League leaders.

Abou Diaby, 21, has already agreed a new long-term contract with the Gunners.

After the Newcastle game, manager Arsène Wenger revealed: "Abou has signed a new deal until 2012," and today the official club website confirmed the news.

Meanwhile, the in-form Flamini - whose man-of-the-match performance against Newcastle was capped with a superb long-range shot for Arsenal's second goal - has revealed that he wants to stay with the club.

Flamini, 23, has become the midfield dynamo of Wenger's side this season, driving them forward tirelessly and keeping Gilberto Silva out of the first-team.

However, Flamini's existing contract expires in the summer, which means that since January 1st, he has been free to talk to other clubs and even sign a pre-contract agreement.

However, after the Gunners' latest 3-0 win over Newcastle, Flamini suggested a move was unlikely.

"My priority is to stay here," he said. "I'm very happy here. I'm happy to play in the team and everything is good. My representatives are talking with the Club and I hope everything will be good. I want to play game after game. The rest, we will see later."

Flamini also revealed that he enjoys a good relationship with his central midfield partner, Cesc Fabregas.

"We are very close on and off the pitch," said former Marseille midfielder Flamini.

"We chill with each other off the pitch. That is important. But when we have to speak on the pitch we are doing it and finding a solution.

"I'm bit more defensive than him. He goes forward more so I cover Cesc, Alex and Tomas in the midfield. I'm trying to be the insurance policy and be a little bit bossy. That's my role. But I'm also trying to help the players up front and help Cesc as well because he is going forward.

"Sometimes he's tired and I try to help. Sometimes it's him and sometimes it's me. But I think we are a very good complement for each other."

As for Diaby, he played his 55th game for Arsenal on Tuesday, 21 of them this season, confirming that he has fully recovered from the broken and dislocated ankle he suffered against Sunderland in 2006, and which consigned him to seven months on the sidelines.

We've also completed the deal for Freeman, We won't be seeing him for awhile though.

Quote:
Arsenal complete deal for Freeman

Teenage Gillingham striker Luke Freeman has completed his expected move to Premier League giants Arsenal.

The 15-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs but has joined the Gunners after a fee - reported to be around £200,000 - was agreed.

Freeman, who turns 16 in March, has signed a two-year deal to become part of Arsenal's youth set-up on their schoolboy/scholar scheme.

He became the youngest player ever to feature in the FA Cup in November.

West Ham and Newcastle were among the other clubs to have targeted him.

Gillingham chairman Paul Scally said: "It is a shame for Gillingham to lose a special talent such as Luke but we cannot stand in the way of such a fantastic opportunity.

"Arsenal have gone about their business in a fair and commendable way so it was a pleasure to do the deal with them.

"They are a fantastic club and I know that they are the right ones to take Luke on and make him into a Premiership player."
