Stephen Kenny looks set to make a surprise return to Derry City as he is on the verge of becoming The Candystripes' new manager.
A week after John Robertson parted company with the Brandywell side, City are set to appoint Kenny on a three-year deal.
Kenny, who left Derry at the start of the year to take charge of Scottish team Dunfermline, parted company with Scottish First Division side last week after a poor start to the season.
And while discussions between City and Kenny are at an advanced stage, the Dubliner is believed to be seeking written assurances on a number of key issues before putting pen to paper on the three-year contract.
Derry chairman Pat McDaid said: 'I am delighted Stephen is returning.
'He was our was our only target for the job and I know the players, staff and supporters will welcome this early Christmas present.'
'We encountered few difficulties in the negotiations. We have had comprehensive meetings and are delighted with the outcome.'
In his first spell, Kenny guided Derry to the FAI Cup, two League Cups and into the second qualifying round of the Champions League rounds. |
He should be a good appointment if his last spell is anything to go by, he did nothing in Scotland but hardly had much to work with. Should be a good contest in the North West next season!
