Hitzfeld to leave Bayern

Ottmar Hitzfeld has confirmed he will be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

The Bayern coach returned to the club less than a year ago and is under contract until the summer.

There had been suggestions that he could extend his stay at the Allianz Arena, but Hitzfeld has opted to quit the current Bundesliga leaders.

"I made my decision known to the club's officials three weeks ago," Hitzfeld told SID sports agency.

"I want to leave the job at the end of the season.

"I will now do all I can to win trophies for Bayern in the time left to me."

Hitzfeld is now expected to become coach of the Switzerland national team when Kobi Kuhn leaves after Euro 2008.

Swiss national team delegate Ernst Lammli has confirmed that informal talks have already talken place, while Bayern's executive manager Uli Hoeness expected Hitzfeld's departure in the summer.


hadly unexpected but hes been doing a good job with them and is still a real quality manager.

Yes I agree with you Hans Meyer was a super manager.Ottmar Hitzfeld is a super,too but I think he is approaching to end of his carrier.

Maybe Hitzfeld will be the coach of Switzerland. We'll see.

and do you know that how old is he?I mean Hittzfeld?He might retire,too.

Hitzfeld is 59. Hans Meyer is indeed 6 years older, but Ottmar Hitzfeld is although "used". Wink

I think Hitzfeld is younger than Sir Alex Ferguson and he might go on with another team.

I think we shouldn't compare Hitzfeld and Sir Alex Ferguson.
The last one is 22 years at Manchester, I just researched, and a living legend for them. Hitzfeld is coach since 01.02.2007 and will leave the club in June. He has already left Bayern München not so long ago because success was missing. Do you see what I mean ?
