No you wouldn't. Not if you'd watched our games this season. Kewell is a class above Babel when starting a match.

As for the match, these things happen. Luton were never going to roll over.. they gave everything to the cause and deserved to win. That's what the FA Cup magic is supposed to be about, isn't it? The little teams having the chances to beat the big teams and the tournament having so many upsets.

We didn't play well, but what bemuses me is why people seem to think that that is our standard performance. That the way we played against Luton is what we're capable of. It clearly isn't - time and time again each player who's played today has shown reason to believe that they're capable of playing in our team. A bad performance - or even numerous bad performances, as we have seen this season - does not mean we have not the quality. Consistency, yes - we lack consistency.

The player's seem so overshadowed by Gerrard and Torres in fact that they've forgotten how to play themselves. Which is frightening. They aren't used to taking a game by the scruff of the neck and riding it out and winning - playing well or otherwise. This is because Gerrard has always done it, and now Torres. On occasion they will themselves, but that is too infrequent and as a result means we're a little lost without the 'star' pair.

Oh and Benraul, Chelsea won the Premier League twice in a row, whilst playing far more defensively than ourselves. If Rafa doesn't bring us the title, it'll be because he cannot deal with the media pressure that accompanies the job - rather than his style or tactics. Ferguson and Wenger aren't subjected to the same relentless negative attention whilst Mourinho could deal with it. Perhaps we need someone who can deal with it also.. and before anyone pops up, no, we shouldn't have Mourinho (not that he'd come here anyway).

Anyway, i'm sure we'll overcome Luton at Anfield.

Outplayed? Yes.

Lucky? Not terribly. Them not scoring from their possession is not down to luck, it's because they can't finish; because we stopped them from getting shots in; or because they wasted their possession with poor delivery. Luck is the ball deflecting off your defenders arm and going into your own net.

I guess we were a little fortunate you might say, though, to get outplayed and still be in the Cup. Still, hardly enough for you to keep going on about how 'lucky' we are.

You say "not terribly" as your answer but you don't say "no" so in other words you are saying you's were lucky but don't like admiting it?

Let's get this in perspective. This is a massive result for Luton a side that is 4th from bottom in the Championship league one division. Liverpool players get paid hundreds of thousands of pounds while Luton are struggling to pay their squad. Excellent result Luton full respect to the club for pulling off this result.

Great result for Luton and they fully deserve the plaudits - but I think they will get spanked in the replay.

Brilliant game, so glad I went to this!

I think it's absolutely fantastic that a cash strapped club can earn a lucrative Cup replay...Hicks and Gillett must be delighted! Laughing

Seriously though, I'm so proud of Luton. The players, fans, staff, management...they are all pulling together without knowing when the next miserly pay packet is coming. The players have only received 2 weeks' worth of wages in the last 9 weeks. Kevin Blackwell has even dipped into his pocket to pay for some of the players' mortgages - that's how cash strapped the club is.

My heart naturally wanted a Luton win, but you have to think of the bigger picture - the money for the replay is much more important. And the players themselves, who fought like lionhearts, totally deserve the chance to play at Anfield.

In terms of chances and possession, I thought a draw was probably fair. But when you consider that Luton's players cost peanuts compared to the megastars of Liverpool, then the Hatters fully deserved to win. Again it was crystal clear that Liverpool without Gerrard or Torres lack a cutting edge, although the team he put out yesterday should have been good enough to deal with Luton, on paper. Luton meanwhile put in a fantastic display littered with mature individual performances - Currie, Andrew, Talbot, Keane - everyone! What also made me proud was that apart from the skipper, Aussie Chris Coyne, all the players are British. Compare that to Liverpool who only had Crouch and Carragher. Seeing a cheaply assembled British team take on an expensive foreign outfit and matching them was a sight to behold. Who did Fabio come to watch? If it was Crouch, then he disappointed.

I read Ben91 saying that Luton only scored from an own goal, but you're forgetting Liverpool's goal. They didn't create it - it was gifted to them by Chris Coyne who was caught in possession. Also, Voronin's shot was going wide - Liverpool were lucky that the keeper saved it and that it fell nicely for Crouch. At least Luton's goal was created by them. Sure it was an own goal, but if it didn't go in, it would have been a penalty for handball. But Match of the Day "experts" Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson only looked at Luton's lucky goal. More bullsh*t big four bias.

I suspect that Gerrard and/or Torres will be on the bench for the replay. Liverpool might need them.

The only difference is we were given a proper sentence. Still, at least it proved that the FA also look after the small clubs in the Premier League.

My point was that we were not particularly lucky, and since either side were gifted goals, i reckon that point still stands.

I know we were outplayed, by the way - but that is hardly 'luck'. They simply played better football and tried harder.

That's the one - it was a real turn up for the books, a shock win - back in the day of Champagne Charlie, Rix & Co.
And Luton had Ricky Hill and Brian Stein, I used to quite like them back then.

Luton vs. Liverpool
