Rangers have revealed a plan to redevelop Ibrox Stadium in a bold project that could make it the biggest sporting venue in Scotland.

The plans, one of three options being considered by the club, could see the stadium in Glasgow completely rebuilt with a new capacity of 70,000.

Rangers would retain the Bill Struth main stand, which is designated as as a Category B listed building.

Ibrox currently holds 51,082 fans, behind Hampden Park and Celtic Park.

Scottish Rugby's Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh is presently the largest in Scotland, with a capacity of 67,500.

"The club would like to inform its fans that it is currently assessing a number of proposals for the development and regeneration around Ibrox," said a Rangers statement.

"At present, we are analysing three strategies which would enhance the development of the existing outline planning proposals for the Hinshelwood area to the south of the stadium.

"One of the strategies includes the total rebuilding of Ibrox Stadium while retaining the brick facade, the tradition and the integrity of the Bill Struth Main Stand.

"The club stresses that, at this time, it is assessing these proposals and no decisions will be reached imminently.

"Further details will be announced at the appropriate time."

Rangers had previously been granted planning permission to build a casino and hotel complex at the Ibrox site as part of plans for the UK's first regional casino.

But the project went to Manchester instead.

As Public Enemy said, don't believe the hype. This will never happen. Expansion, yes, certainly it's needed, but it'll never be the biggest in Scotland. £700m will be easy to come by Rolling Eyes

I wonder would a temporary ground share at Celtic ever be considered by either side, if needed due to building work?!

Just blown way out of proportion. They will probably revamp a section of the ground and the media put their spin on it. Load of old shampooey.

Can't see a ground share with us Spunky. Maybe Cylde, that way they might fill the ground on non Old Firm games

Now the Jambo's are at their story telling too. Plan to give Tynecastle a £59m revamp to increase the capacity by 10,000...
