I admire your ambition, but setting up a club is not as easy as it sounds, well the setting up is fairly straight forward, it is making sure it does not fold in the first season that is difficult.
First of all you need to work out whether you want a five a side team or an 11 aside team. The reasons I say this is because you only need the lads that will turn up for 5 a side, and pay towards playing at goals or some 5 aside place. But even though I am not familiar with Gothica, I get the feeling you will need real experience to get in. Have you checked the terms and conditions? From what I have read, you will need your child protection certificate and possibly somebody over 18 with child protection too. You will need insurance for your players including travel insurance to take part, and if you are the manager you will take the penalties if people do anything stupid, including ur supporters. First of all, I would advise registering your players and then going to the football foundation and applying for the junior kits scheme. A lot of teams use this source for youth football sides. I say register your players (Ie get on a pc, have a look at local junior sides clubs where you can download one of their forms and simply change it to suit your club and print it out). Ambition is good, but do you have the stomach for week after week of disapointment. Stress of people letting you down, making sure the players pay their subscriptions on time, because you will sink quicker than the titanic if you are not prepared for the hard times, cos although highly rewarding, football management isnt an easy game. And the players need to be taught to think the right way. Whenever they lose they will blame your tactics rather than themselves. I have had issues where whatever formation I am playing someone will always complain the formation is why we lost. It doesnt happen as much now, because the lads know what roles are expected of them and that it is not the formation that wins or loses games but players not carryig out the duties they are supposed to. For an 11 a side team you will need a committee. Get a responsible adult to help too. No matter how dedicated you are, you always need help. Dont try do everything yourself. You will need to have a meeting, decide on a name etc and draw up codes of conducts etc, these again can be copied and pasted and adapted to your needs. You should have regular committee meetings and ensure your team are training together regularly. You will feel the negative effects if you dont. Once you have agreed on a team name etc and have had that meeting, ring your local county FA, they will send you out an affiliation form. Registration costs around £40 per season. Before I waste a load of time telling you about setting up a proper club, it would be an idea to find out exactly what you are wanting this club to be. And what you want out of it. Saying you want to be the first english side to win the gothica cup is one thing, but it doesnt tell me much. To be honest I would presume there is a lot of entries from long standing clubs who play 11 a side normally in a league and usually have a lot of junior teams too. So a 5 year plan to win the cup is all well and good, but i would call it an achievment just getting there in the first place for now. Actually winning it or winning a single game (im not trying to damnpen you spirits but if ur ambious i dont want to see the wind being knocked out of u because you misjudged how tough it would be........best to be prepared). Many clubs that enter will have ambition to win the cup, and believe they can. Some will be genuine contenders with such well orginised and talented sides you will return home dreaming of one day being that good. That is because they will come from very proffessional set ups. What is your plan, how do u intend on getting to a position where you can win this. what are you going to do in the meantime? are you going to play in a league? if so is it 11 a side or 5 aside? |

I know how to set up a club if thats what your meaning
Setting Up A Club The vast majority of football throughout the country is played at a local level for personal enjoyment. Before embarking on forming a new team, the following 2 questions should be asked: 1. Are there enough potential players? 2. Are there enough volunteers to take care of club organisation and administration? Details of the major matters for setting up a club that you should be aware of are listed in the two pages linked left. First Step By following these simple guidelines you should be in a position to have your new club up and running in no time. Constitution – Appointment of Club Officials Clubs must appoint a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary to enable the club to function effectively within County FA Rules and Regulations. It is also suggested that other people are appointed to assist in other administrative areas of the club. Finance – Income and Expenditure to Run the Club As a new club it will be important to raise funds to run the club and initially these will probably be from player memberships and subscriptions. It is also advisable to produce a list of costs to run your team which will help you create a budget of income and expenditure for the season. Players – Registration, Eligibility, Discipline, Child Protection & Coaching It is important that clubs are fully conversant with the rules of each competition that they may wish to enter. All discipline at grassroots is administered by the County Football Association and the Secretary of the club is responsible to ensure that all players are eligible to play. If clubs have any doubts about eligibilities, for example suspensions, they should contact us for details. For youth teams, it is important to observe The FA Child Protection Policy, Practices and Procedures. An official of the club should attend an FA Child Protection and Good practice Workshop. See our Course page for further details. Insurance – Public Liability, Personal Injury and Other Policies Clubs are required to have adequate insurance cover for their players in case of injury or accident whilst playing or travelling to matches. Public Liability Insurance is arranged for you by the Lancashire County Football Association as a mandatory part of Affiliation. Second Step Affiliation – County Associations & Leagues A Club will need to affiliate to a parent County Football Association and the appropriate league it wishes to join. Clubs are recommended to seek advice on suitable league membership from our County Headquarters. Fixtures – League & Cup Competitions Fixtures are administered by the appropriate competition secretary, who advises clubs of forthcoming matches. If it is a home match, the club secretary must arrange hire of a pitch, notify opponents and match officials of kick-off time and location of venue. For away games, arrange to inform your own team of venue, kick-off time and arrange for transport of players. Lancashire County Football Association runs cup competitions which give an opportunity for teams to play against clubs from different leagues or divisions. Pitches – Useful Contacts & Advice Apply to your Local Authority, other local teams, Parish Council or owner of a private ground to hire a pitch. Please note hire charges will vary. Kit & Equipment Purchase suitable equipment prior to the start of your fixtures and ensure you have sufficient equipment for all teams in your club. The necessary equipment will include, playing strip, first aid kit, nets and balls. Administration See attached club action timetable which covers tasks in pre-season, tasks prior to day of the game, task on the day of the game, discipline and the club Annual General Meeting (AGM). Results / Public Relations / Press Ensure you pass on results of your matches to comply with competition regulations. All clubs are recommended to establish good relationships with the local press to publish results, match reports and possibly just interesting stories about their club. Good PR will help raise the profile of the club, bring in new players and may even attract some sponsorship. |

That is straight out of a book. It is correct, but it also depends on what type of team u are going to have.
Who is going to be club sec, treasurer, manager etc is a consideration. How reliable are these people, if someone is offering to do it, but is badly orginised it is going to fold your club. Not mentioned is the fact that if you fail to carry out an activity as club sec, the club will get fined, if the club do not pay it, the fine gets doubled. If a player is sent-off for something serious and wont pay the money and just leaves the club instead THE CLUB HAVE TO FIND THE MONEY, if you dont find the money in time the fine will be doubled. IF you cannot pay the doubled fine the club will be suspended from the league, if your club is suspended from the league the club will get a fine per game, if per game you do not pay the fines on time, those fines will be doubled. And so on..........UNTIL you have no choice but to fold. So have you got the people who could put this sort of time in? That is the big question, someone reliable and orginised. The info above is helpful but straight out of a book so doesnt tell the whole story. The cost of your insurance approx £120 Cost of pitch hire from £400-£900 depending area. Cost of county affliation £45 approx Cost of ref per game £20 to £25 per home, must be paid before kick off. Cos of league affiliation £50-£100 Yellow card £8 Red Card £20+ depending on severity. So when players pay subs this should be considered, who is gonna insure everyone pays their subs on time?? Cos people need a kick to part with money until it becomes habit. So it is all well and good giving info from the fa handbook or whatever source you used, but there is more to setting up a club and running it that what was mentioned. The same with managing a football club, there are a lot of things you learn on the job with experience. A level 1 badge will tell you very little, but is a means to an ends, gets u to level 2. But with all that, it still doesnt mean you will make a good coach, you gotta get the experience, and believe me, managing a football club is hard. Very hard although very rewarding (not financially). |

Yeah rik is right, it is really hard work running a football team. I've been running my own team for two years that I started up myself from scratch and I was only 20 when i started it up. All the things rik said are right, but as well as needing a reliable secretary, treasurer and manager you really need reliable players. theres nothing more stressful than having your phone go off an hour or two before the game with players saying they can't make it and then your short of players and frantically going through your phonebook trying to find one more person to make the 11 up. Don't get me wrong, when your winning games its all worth while but when your going through bad patches and things are going wrong its pretty stressful.

Yep, players ringing up last minute to say they cant play is a nightmare. Managed to combat that problem now but it was a nightmare with sorting out arrangements for players to contact me well in advance before i name the squad.
