hi all, new to the forum sorry if this has been done before but I couldnt find anything on it...

I am looking at possibly in the future coaching a range of sports in America, and I was wondering if people had any experiences of it themselves, if there is alot of work out there, just any views really. I have spoken to a couple of friends who went out there last year and are doing so again this summer and they seemed to find work relatively easy and they are loving it. I have completed FA level 1 and FA level 2 football coaching and have been coaching locally for around the last 18 months, to give you an idea of my background.

So, what do you think? move over there and risk it? or stay here coaching locally?

Someone at my school went over to america for a footballing scholarship last year and i seem toi remember her saying theres always jobs available in some capacity. Havnt spoken to her for about a year though so it could have changed.

I have a few friends who go over to the sates yearly to coach football in soccer camps and such like. Apparently they love british coaches over there. One of them even lives there now and married an american lass. Hes attached to a college out there which would seem to be the way to go if you are thinking of making a permanent move. However my friend who lives there loves the work but hates the lifestlye. He misses not being able to just go to his local pub with his mates etc.

To conclude i would say that from what ive heard going there to coach for a few months is fine, but to earn the money you would possibly have to go out there and investigate the opportunities and check out the lifestyle for yourself as its not everyones cup of tea.

strass, do you happen to know what qualifications your mates went out there with? how big an issue was it? yeah everyone who Iv spoken to says similar, they loved it out there. Agree completely about the college, seems to be the best way to go about it.

The qualifications they went with were equivalent to the level 2 in todays language. In theory in i suppose you could go with a level 1 but i dont think it would be much use to you unless you were baby sitting. There are companies that recruit coaches to go out there. I suggest checking them out then if you do go its all about the network and contacts. Also im awre that if you do go and do a good job then the companies themselves invite you back.
