Siena 3-0 Roma |
Absolutely embarrassed. Roma were indeed poor but Siena were equally brilliant.
Frick hit the bar, Jarolim hit the post and then the three goals amongst many glorious chances in a game where Siena ripped apart the Romans. Manninger was great for his clean sheet as well. Particularly loved the fact that Roma got so frustrated they started hacking players, stamping on them and even punching at them. Totti punching Manninger with the Austrian not even flinching or realising was quite funny. Great game all round though. Roma's title chances over? I'd like to think so. |

Yeah I do think our chances are over now. But what is more frustrating is that Inter isn't in a better shape than us, and no one helps Roma as helps Inter
J-Axe were you waiting for a deafeat to blame Roma's players? Finally we lost |

Haha, no!
I really enjoy watching Roma play and am a fan of their football. But I just watched the game today and thought I had to comment on it. Siena deserve a lot of credit for their performance. Mario Frick was exceptional and they really outplayed Roma from start to finish which for me, shows the quality of the Serie A. Siena aren't safe from relegation yet still have the quality and class to completely outplay Roma. Inter were quite lucky today as well with Empoli missing a late penalty. |

I didn't catch the match but is it true that Totti elbowed the opposing keeper in a lash of anger? That's what I heard.

We were losing 2-0 he was probably frustrated by the way he and the team were playing and to get the ball from the arms of Siena's keeper to kick a corner kick, he started hitting the ball with punches until he got it and then the last punch hit the chest of Manninger |

Manninger didn't even flinch.

from what i have seen of Mancini i must be watching a different player to the one i read about.
am i missing something or is he vastly over rated |

Are you basing just on this match or are you speaking on a more comprehensive basis of matches?
I don't know what you read about him so I can't judge if he's overrated or not. What I can say is that he's a good player surely not average but neither the best player ever. He's not as good as Ronaldo and Quaresma if it's what you've read |
Yeah, he is a tad overrated by the media and a lot of the football 'expert' pundits.
He's got some pace, skill and an eye for goal but he lacks end product and is generally quite a lazy player. Giuly is even a better option for Roma in my view and I don't understand why Mancini and Taddei started ahead of him. |
Nah Giuly isn't better than Mancini, not now that's 32 anyway. Not the same pace not the same dribbling not the same aptitude to score in open field or one on one against a defender.
Ludovic is much better in the middle in the place of Perrotta than as a winger. Taddei is precious defensively to cover his side and not only his side. He's all over the pitch with his pressing and often regains important balls in the midfield. We almost never start with two offensive wingers at the same time. When there's no Taddei Spalletti puts often Cassetti or Tonetto to replace him as a winger |

Giuly has better end product and is much more accurate in the final third with passes, runs and shots than Mancini.
Mancini is just a real disappointment for me everytime I watch him play. He reminds me of Arjen Robben only with less pizazz. |
Perrotta on the other hand is confident but he has no touch in his feet, when I see him playing I wonder if he shoots at his feet before the matches or something p.s. I didn't get what does end product mean, can you explain? |

End product basically means to produce something at the end of your work.
So you could run past players all day, but if you can't make assists, make good passes or score goals then you don't have anything to offer really. Crístiano Ronaldo used to lack a real end product - same for Adebayor at Arsenal who also ran all day, worked hard and played well - but they couldn't score many goals or make many assists - now they've got end product in the sense that they score lots of goals and improved their ability in the final third of the pitch. It's good to hear your views on Roma and particularly Mancini, and of course you know more than me about your Club. Mancini just really frustrates me and although Giuly can be frustrating, he is more accurate with his passing, which you agree with. Perotta is a very good player, but I don't think he's the attacking threat that Spalletti thinks. He'd be better in the standard CM role? Why doesn't Vucinic start alongside Totti? Is he not good enough? |
Thanks for the explanation, anyway I still think Mancini is a more useful player in the final third in terms of assists and shots. May be Giuly is no more at his top form these days though, I didn't see much of him when he was in Barcelona and Monaco
I agree with you about Perrotta, last season he was really important for us in the position where he's playing now but this year he has showed all his limits. Better as a CM for sure but in that position we've several better players than him. The reason Vucinic never starts alongside Totti is Spalletti from the day he came to Roma never changed his tactics, he played always with 4-2-3-1 and seems he doesn't want to change. I would be happy to see both of them as forwards as we saw Vucinic can't play isolated in the position of Totti because he don't have the same physical strength and he's not able to cover the ball and let his teammates move forward, he usually go down and rarely gets a freekick. Sometimes Vucinic plays as winger but also there he's not very useful, he's generally a lazy player, that runs when he wants only, I never saw in him the rage to run after the ball Having Totti at his side would probably be ideal for him. |

Axey, I think the reason you may like Guily better than Mancini is maybe that you have past knowledge of him. But if you have seen as many Roma matches as I have you would see that Mancini is a top player. His skill on the ball is really good and he can score some wondrous goals. But lately his luck has been dropping and his shots have gotten weak. But I give him credit for his past matches because I know what he can do.
