Tottenham have confirmed that they've applied to be in next seasons Intertoto Cup.

Thoughts?

Me personnaly i think it would be very good as we always start slowly maybe this wiill kick start our start of season. Them knowing if they dont win then they wont be playing europe.

So we may get european football next season by this or by beating Chelsea in the final. I think you get europe if you win the CC, well Jamie Redknap has been saying you do.

You do get into Europe by winning the CC cos Boro did when they won it.

Europe is where we should be , but the 2 bob cup makes it a long season ,also the cloggers you play in the early rounds leave you prone to injuries to key players

Nice, effectively puts another UEFA Cup place in the league for us, now we just gotta get eighth. If that is by some miracle we dont win the CC or UEFA Cup.

from the 606 boards i read this :-

on an article earlier some one asked what our record was this time last year and what position we were in, and because of our late push last season, is it still realistic for us to make fifth. well these are the stats;

League Record 2007-2008

Pld W D L F A GD GFA GAA P pG Pts Rank
Home Record 12 6 2 4 33 22 11 2.75 1.83 1.66 20 9
Away Record 14 2 6 6 15 19 -4 1.07 1.35 0.85 12 11
Overall Record 26 8 8 10 48 41 7 1.84 1.57 1.23 32 11

League Record 2006-2007 [for the same period]

Pld W D L F A GD GFA GAA PpG Pts Rank
Home Record 13 8 1 4 21 16 5 1.61 1.23 1.92 25 7
Away Record 12 1 5 6 8 20 -12 0.66 1.66 0.66 8 17
Overall Record 25 9 6 10 29 36 -7 1.16 1.44 1.32 33 11

this time last season we were in 11th, as we are now, although having played a game less!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If this is right then i don't see why we cant push for 6th or 7th ... I feel we can if we have to.

Villa have also applied for it apparently so we have to hope they qualify for it via league position because we arent going to finish above them.

I believe Man City have also, so your unlikely to get the place.

Everton and ourselves are likely to take up 4th/5th, with 6th also meaning for UEFA Cup football (assuming Chelsea win the Carling Cup, which is what we are here). After that you'd have to hope one of Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton or Chelsea win the FA Cup to give a UEFA place to 7th. As you're unlikely to get that high. Then the highest finishing team that has applied to the Intertoto Cup could be yourselves.

Your best bet has to be the Carling Cup though.

Also at the moment England are top of the Fifa fair play table so if we can stay clean there will be an extra place for the uefa cup.

Personnally i think the only way we will get european football is if we win one of the 2 cups. Most likely is obviously the Carling Cup as we are already in the final.

lol so what exactly qualifies you for the uefa cup. Or is it just being in it and being migger than teams like Grasshopper-Club Zurich. Laughing

Yea iirc its one two legged tie against some shizer team and that it, you are in the UEFA Cup, then the team who lasts the longest in the UEFA Cup 'wins' the Intertoto Cup.

Absurd competition, heard this is the last year it will exist too, good riddance I say.
