Oh c'mon, even Sunderland fans could've said that about Barnsley before today. They've been awful in the league. Unfortunately fur us, they put in the performance of their life today.

Yep, I agree with that (Sticky's comments).

It really bugs me when you keep hearing muppets moan about Benitez for his rotation policy like that's the only reason for Liverpool's poor form. There are other fundamental reasons for their recent decline.

So what were these mistakes? I don't think he made any real mistakes in the team selection today - although i personally wouldn't have Kuyt anywhere near a Liverpool shirt at the moment.

You know what the mistakes were in team selection today. Gerrard on the bench. Doesn't come until 75 mins. Kuyt up front with Crouch. No Torres and not even on the bench if needed. At least put him on the bench in case you need some firepower.

Sticky T wrote:

No, there was no reason to play Torres today. Resting him was the right decision.

Hindsight says it wasn't. Liverpool should have won regardless but you didn't even have the chance to correct things as he wasn't on the bench.

Thats the thing we are in terrible form and are playing well terrible, so surely rafa should put out his strongest team available rather than taking a risk which backfired.

I meant to add the words or late or form. Sorry.

But 12 games without a win is really poor.

Oh, c'mon Floody. When a team can't win for 12 straight games (i'm quoting Monty here, i haven't really verified that statistic myself) then there's nothing wrong with calling them "sh*t" (at least in the last few months).

Every player in every position in our team was better than theirs. Most significantly better.

Although i can't really comment about the goal keepers, because i don't know enough about either of them really.

No.

The chances of us losing it with a team that is significantly stronger than theirs in all departments were slim. Very slim.

The chances of Torres getting injured if he played today are far greater. Remember he's recovering from an injury as well. So to play him today would've been a far greater risk.

I wouldn't have said anything if he had said going by recent form or something similar.

I'm clueless about teams from lower divisions so can someone tell me if Barnsley fielded a full squad today? Or were they missing a couple of important players themselves?

I think Barsnley has a few players missing through being cup-tied, they might have had injuries aswell.

As for Torres we shouldn't have needed him today, Rafa was right not to play him and Gerrard from the start. Our reserve team are top of their league and I bet they could have done better today, we have some fantastic young players in that team. It's a pitty that if Rafa get's sacked most of them will move on.

Barnsley have been good at home in the league. Their home form is 5th in their league only 2 defeats. Their away from is abysmal with 1 win in 16 games and bottom of the away form in their league.
