Sligo Rovers manager Paul Cook has completed the signing of Benin international captain Romauld Boco ahead of the 2008 eircom League of Ireland season.

Boco skippered the Benin squad at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana, playing in all three of his side’s group fixtures against Mali, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

The 22-year-old joins Sligo from Accrington Stanley, whom he helped to promotion to the Football League two years ago.

He has made 11 League Two appearances this season, and Rovers boss Cook is delighted with the acquisition.

He told the club’s official website: “Romauld is central midfielder/striker. I didn’t think I’d get him, I thought that he’d be out of our reach but thankfully we’ve secured him.

“I don’t want to put pressure on him, but I’m certain that the fans will see that he is the real deal and with the other signings that we’ve made, I believe that we’re in for a very exciting season.

“I’d like to put on record my thanks to the committee. They’ve really shown that they are determined to bring the kind of players in that will bring this club forward.”

Never heard of him but he must be a good enough player to captain his country at the Nations Cup. Should be a good signing for the knackers!

Benin are the minnows, but they did themselves proud.

Can't say Boco stood out, but it's good to see the knackers signing some International stars. Laughing

Dont think I saw Benin play at all, who was in their group?

Sligo always sign these sort of players, they used to have a load of Caribbean internationals a few years back!

They were in the group of death with Mali, Nigeria and Ivory Coast. So never getting through.

Benin qualified for the ACN by rising above Togo to finish second behind Mali, so they aren't that bad.

Benin most notably played well in their opening game to only lose by a single goal to Mali, even though Benin probably created the better chances.

Ah yeah I watched them against Ivory Coast, they weren't that bad actually if I remember them correctly, created plenty of chances. They still ended up losing 4-1 though!

Should be a decent enough signing for them all the same..

Have you ever been to Sligo Paul? Its a complete sh!thole, full of knackers & caravans & the like!

Corkonians are just generally irritating with their arrogance & strange accent but theyre not as bad as Sligo!

Fair enough its not quite that bad! Good place for surfing around there in Donegal Bay & theres a few more things to do.

As for their team, yeah they get plenty of foreigners for some reason, much more than any other team in the country. Theyre apparently in financial trouble this year though from what ive heard..
