Arsène Wenger believes his team will come up against the best footballer in the world on Sunday.

Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo has been in quite stunning form this season, plundering 37 goals in all competitions. Not bad for a man who is, by trade, a winger. And the Arsenal boss insists that his combination of style and efficiency has got Ronaldo where he is today.

Ominously for the Gunners, the Portuguese international was afforded a rest in United’s Champions League win over Roma on Wednesday.

“He is the best player in the world at the moment, because he has the combination of the two most difficult things in life,” said Wenger. “Style and efficiency.

“I have always loved efficiency and he had that in the goals he has scored. He plays as a winger but he's scored 37 goals. You cannot deny that.”

Also Wenger tried signing Ronaldo before he joined for United.

If that's true i am shocked ,but i would like to see a direct quote of that from wenger.I would have said he was just trying to be polite but ,In that sentence he seems actually impressed with him.Maybe I'm better than Wenger after all.

I am shocked because Wenger has watched his players basically make the boy look ordinary on the majority of occasions. If i'm buying a player ,i'm buying one that has exposed my current players, then i know i got a big timer.I think Mr.Wenger needs a word from me.

Hi guys im new.
To be honest i dont think that ronaldinho can be called the best at the moment because he hasnt played his best football for a while now and he is consistently injured. Messi and Ronaldo are the best in the world. Ronaldo is setting the epl on fire with what is it, over 25 goals and is always a threat. However, one thing that counts against him is the fact that he has failed to produce in big games. That was evident against Barca this morning....missed a penalty. I think the pressure of expectation on him maybe gets to him a little bit. Messi is the best in the world i think. He is a complete player. While Ronaldo flaunts his bag of tricks, Messi plays so simple yet so effective. If you saw him this morning he just plays a simple ball and looks for a one two and is always moving off the ball looking for a gap in the defence. I think tactically messi is more aware.
Lastly Fernando Torres is definetly worth a mention although i know he is not the best. He is an outstanding player. Ypu know that because as a Man Utd supporter when we played Liverpool i was scared everytime he got the ball because he is such a threat. That is always a signal of a great player. When they get the ball you get a feeling that something is going to happen.

Welcome to the forum - stick around and enjoy Smile

Regarding the above quote Specnur, I got that directly from the Arsenal official website. It is all true. But I agree with you, Wenger should sit down over a couple of beers and get some tips off you. Wink

Ronaldo is the best in the world, top scorer n the Premier League for a midfielder is unreal. And for those who say he does'nt do it on the big stage, he's top scorer in the Champions League to. Is that not a big stage? What about his good performances this season against Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Lyon, Roma? Even against Barca he won a penaltyand should of had 2 more. And he dives? Maybe 2 seasons ago but not anymore, Iniesta, Deco and Barca were doing all the diving the other night. All the Ronaldo haters will be eating humble pie when Ronaldo has the Premiership and Champions League in his arms.

i would like to prove that kingdrogba is talking craps with something called facts. kingdrogba wont know what these are. he claims that ronaldo had good games in the ones above. but out of 10games that Man United played against these teams, ronaldo has scored 2goals. and in another thread kingdrogba said ronaldo has scored 60 goals this year!!
learn some facts drogba!

I thought it was particularly funny when he claimed Ronaldo doesn't dive.

Drogba is one of the hardest strikers in the prem. Just because he uses play acting and diving to gain an advantage, it doesn't mean he isn't hard. He's as tough as they come, but will do anything to gain an advantage. Including making a fool of himself and allowing people to use him as a subject of ridicule. That takes balls.
