Central Coast goalkeeper Danny Vukovic could face a lifetime ban after being sent off for striking the referee in yesterday's 1-0 loss to Newcastle in the A-League grand final in Sydney.
Vukovic struck referee Mark Shield in frustration after a penalty appeal was turned down and the incident will be reviewed by Football Federation Australia's match committee today.
Under the FFA's disciplinary code, the penalty for striking an official is between a year and a lifetime ban.
The Olyroos goalkeeper was sent off as Central Coast players angrily protested to Shield that Newcastle's James Holland had handled in the area.
Newcastle striker Mark Bridge scored the winner in the 64th minute when he dispossessed Central Coast defender Tony Vidmar and found the right-hand corner from just outside the penalty box.
Central Coast coach Lawrie McKinna said he was unaware of the referee being hit but said Vukovic had let his emotions get the better of him.

A life ban wouldn't be fair and especially as he is only young. Australia know that our goalkeeping stocks rest in his hands so I think he'll get a lengthy ban but not a lifeban. He is an integral part of our Olyroos and soon to play for the Socceroos in my opinion. He'll serve a shorter ban then the proposed minimum of one year I bet.

I heard now that he has 9 months suspension which could turn into 15months if he appeals or something.
