Striker Michael Owen is looking to extend his stay at Newcastle after revealing negotiations have begun on a new deal at St James' Park...

Quote:

"We've just opened contract talks, we are talking," Owen told At The Races.

"I've got this season left regardless and we're working on a deal to stay longer.

"There'll probably be news in a month or two.

"This last year I played fully without hiccups to my knee. That's well behind me now."

As i said before posts got deleted, we signed 15 year-old Aaron Spears.

We've also signed Jonas Gutierrez from Real Mallorca, who is a right sided foreward:

Quote:
Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan has made his first signing of the summer with the acquisition of Argentina international Jonas Gutierrez.

The right-side forward arrives at St James' Park on a five-year deal after Newcastle concurred on an undisclosed fee with Real Mallorca.

Nicknamed 'Spiderman' for his elaborate goal celebrations, Gutierrez had previously been linked with a move to Portsmouth.

Keegan is confident Gutierrez, who turns 25 on Saturday, will quickly establish himself as a favourite in the North East.

Could this mean that we will allow James Milner to leave, should a bid be made for him?

Can he play both left and right wing? I still think we will keep Milner and we know he can play on both wings so i don't think we can say he is a replacement yet. I was watching skysports and they had the spanish expert on the phone and he says it is a pretty good deal depending on the fee. It has been said that we might have bought out his contract so the fee should be quite low. The player looks quite tall, well built and is said to be technically gifted, sounds like a good deal. I don't want to get too excited as we have had no luck in the past.

Not a right sided forward. Seen him play on the wing and in the centre of midfield. Did well for mallorca last season when i watched them. He can br a dirty player also. Also plays for argentina too

Well i am happy that Newcastle have made their first signing of the summer. Maybe we could add Superman and The Hulk to our new winger who is nicknamed Spiderman. Just a thought. I still think we need atleast four more players (5 if we feel the need to sack barton).

Experienced CB
Creative CM
Someone who can play both left and right back. We need cover for these positions and it would be good if Enrique had some competition.
Target man. I feel we need someone who can move as wel as hold the ball up. Last year we used Viduka who was hardly mobile at times. To be fair to Viduka, he did well at times but he is getting on. Maybe get someone young in.

I would sack Barton if we were able to get a replacement, but only if that was the case.

On the face of it it seems like a good signing for you guys does this, but then the words Albert Luque just scream out at you don't they surely?!

Well Albert Luque was a p!ss take. Our owner told the manager he would cost 2million. Then the owners son (who acted as Luques agent) come up with the fee of 10.5million. Bit strange...

For those who are bothered.....

Steven Taylor has signed a new three-year contract with Newcastle United. Very Happy Very Happy

Taylor told the club's official website: "I am thrilled to have signed this new contract. Newcastle United is my hometown club and the only team I've ever wanted to play for.

"I can't wait to get back into pre-season training next week and get stuck into the Prmeier League campaign next month."

This is great news! He can become a legend at this club and a future captain for sure. Cool

Great news, best thing i've heard all day. I had a feeling he would'nt be leaving this summer, not until he wants to actually leave the club. Right now he's commited to the club, which is all too good for us. Now need to find him a good centre back to work with.

I keep reading that they are after Gokhan Inler from Switzerland and I think that could be a very good signing for them. Looked quaity for the Swiss.

I was just reading about that. Meant to cost us around 4million. You can never tell how any Newcastle player will be, but i think it could be worth a risk. Not sure if there is any truth in these reports though.

They still look like a mid level club.
Martins won't be there if Newcastle let him go and that's major. N'zogbia should be leaving also if he's smart ,because he should never be on the bench looking at that squad. That's is all of your creativity gone in the blink of an eye as no one else on that team at midfield have an ounce of creativity.

They can sign all the forwards they want ,but who's going to get them the ball?
Newcastle need to concentrate on that position first and foremost ,and the lack of players in that position linked with the club leads me to believe they don't know what they're doing.

Do you know why N'Zogbia was on the bench? We have just bought a winger, not a forward and you are in love with Martins and your love for him is making you think he is better then he is. I have said many times that things are not looking good for the club, you are not making much of a statement here. However, there is still time for keegan to get a few more players in. If he doesn't buy anymore players untill then end of the transfer window we are in deep trouble but there is still time. Personally i am only really looking at a top 10 place next year anyway. It will take more then one summer to fix this club. I'm sure you agree with this so i think its a bit early to say they don't know what they are doing.

Defence is the place you need to look at. It got better towards the end of the year and I guess you can't keep signing defenders hoping they are good.
Look at Boumsong, former Newcastle player who wasn't the most assured on the ball in the premiership, yet he turns out for France in the Euro. What gives?

Owen and Martins up front is great as first choice, but need cover if none already. Inler is a good creative player who would fit in and a realistic option for a club like Newcastle. Offense intended. Twisted Evil

A wealthy construction company run by the family of terrorist Osama bin Laden has emerged as a front-runner to buy Newcastle United. (Mail on Sunday)

couple of things .
The reason i wouldn't spend on defense right now is because like you said the seemed to get it together and at times looked really good.
Midfield is the place they need help ,because most players who started playing football as kid always knew how to put the ball away. The midfielder is important because he is the one player who ties the back to the front. Good service from the middle of the park changes a team in a massive way.
Just putting one creative genius in the middle could change a mid level team to a euro challenger.

Owen and Martins are too much alike to be playing at the same time,Both are short as f*ck so you eliminate the ariel dimension from the start, that limits them and helps the opposing defense in terms of marking. In which case Oba has [proven a better player than owen playing alone against the defense ,but the problem is the service.

Big Kev "the Messiah" Keegan's summer rebuilding
