Bout time they made a positive signing.

It's been a slow and no doubt depressing summer for all the Geordies.

Personally I think it's going to be a VERY long season for you. 20/1 for relegation is looking too good to miss! Rolling Eyes

Smacks of desperation to me, that's a big fee.

Saw Guthrie got on the sore sheet again last night. Maybe I will end up eating my words about young Danny. Does anyone know how he performed?

He's a good player, but that's a hell of a lot of money for a defender.

From what i hear the fee will be 7million and could rise to 10.3million.

Ben - It was a well taken goal. I only listened to the match but he did pretty good.

What is it with Newcastle?

9th August, Smith aims to keep Cuellar at Rangers. At this time we were linked with a move for him.
Two days later, Villa agree a fee to sign him Neutral

He is a good player but we don't need to spend 7million on him when we have got Coloccini. I would much rather spend 7million on a creative midfielder.

Didn't Cuellar say he wanted to play in the Champions League and that pretty ruled out most clubs chances of signing him?

Kaunas 2 Rangers 1

And now he wants to leave.

Talk about jumping a sinking ship...

Argentina defender Fabricio Coloccini has signed for English Premiership club Newcastle on a five-year contract, British media revealed on Friday.

The transfer fee paid by Spanish first division club Deportivo La Coruna for the 26-year-old was not revealed however. Coloccini has experience at big clubs, having first started out at Argentine club Boca Juniors 10 years ago before joining Italian giants AC Milan in 1999.

However he made just one appearance for the San Siro side and spent the rest of his five years with the Italians on loan at San Lorenzo, Alaves, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal before moving on to Deportivo in 2004.

Coloccini was part of the Argentina U-20 side that won the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship as well as the 2004 Olympic gold medal-winning team alongside Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez.

He also appeared in the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ and was part of the side that went down to two late Michael Owen goals in the 3-2 friendly defeat by England in November 2005.

A big loss for deportivo. They are struggling right now so im guessing that was a reason why he left to come to england.

Do you not think you are a bit weak centrally defensively and he will help bring on Taylor more to?I do agree you need a creative midfielder but shoring up the defence would be my priority if i was Keegan and Gutierrez can supply creativity and i think is a cracking player though admittedly i only saw him in a friendly against a german side on setanta(think it was hertha berlin). You would know better than me obviously as youd follow the magpies more closely than me but who do you think you need for that creative midfield spot?

I don't know why Newcastle relentlessly sign risky players. I am taking nothing away from Coloccini he is a quality player who may be a fantastic signing. It just seems to me they could have signed someone Premiership proven for that money and taken less of a risk on what will be a big season for them. Gutierrez is another risk especially as he is well known for being tempremental, you would think they would learn after Marcelino, Luque....

IMO Taylor has a bring future ahead of him. I have watched him for a few years now and i believe this will be his best season yet. The man reason for this is because of Coloccini. Ever since Taylor has come into the side he has always had a crap player beside him. Hopefully Taylor and Coloccini can work well together.
Cuitierrez looks a cracking player. He is playing as well as anyone in pre season and i am sure he will prove himself to those who don't know him. He is strong, hard wroking and skillful. I am not saying he will impress straight away but from what i have seen i am very pleased with the signing.

How can you compare him with the likes of Marcelino and Luque? Are you trying to say that there are no good players in the Spanish league?
Before you start calling Cutierrez "tempremental", you should know that since he has came here he has acted professionally. Instead of taking a week off when he was unable to play for us he decided to start training instead. He has shown great enthusiasm towards the club and i am very happy he is a Newcastle player.

Do you think Damien Duff may play a bigger role for you this season and is he fit?He could provide great creativity from wide positions?

Duff has been a totally different player in pre season, scoring 4 goals. At the end of last season i was wanting him to be sold. But it looks like he has worked hard over the summer and i cant believe how well he is playing at the moment. He will play a part this season, even though i would still class him as our third best winger (behind Milner and Gutierrez). However he can play on the right, the left or behind the front two. I personally think he has done enough to start in the game against Man United. The chances are we will be forced to play 4-5-1 (as we have 3 strikers injured).

Big Kev "the Messiah" Keegan's summer rebuilding
