Is it true that Agger could buy out his contract for 2.7million poundss in January if he wanted to move away?

I think hes a top defender, id pay 10mill for him easy.

I've heard something about him being able to buy his contract out. To do with Fifa's new rule where players under the age of 28 that have been at a club for 3 years can buy their contract out.

He'd be a bit of a Little Johnny to do so though. After he was injured all last season and we spent the time getting him back and solving his foot problem. Plus he knows once Carragher enter's the latter stage of his career (something he isn't far from) he and Skrtel will be the main partnership at Liverpool for the foreseeable future.

That can't be the only criteria surely?

Don't you have to be in the last year of your contract?

Because that would mean Ronaldo could've bought out his contract to move to Real Madrid. And Barry could've done the same to us.

I don't know Sticky to be honest. I did think it were a bit of a slender criteria to get out of a contract with a club.

Maybe you're right.

Here we go...

Quote:
Article 17

Article 17 of FIFA's Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players is entitled "Consequences of Terminating a Contract Without Just Cause", and is the fifth article of Chapter IV, "Maintenance of Contractual Stability between Professionals and Clubs". It outlines the provisions which apply if a contract is terminated without just cause, and the requirement for the party in breach to pay compensation. Specifically, it states that any player who signed a contract before the age of 28 can buy himself out of the contract three years after the deal was signed. The window is shortened to two years if he is 28 or older. Article 17 was introduced in December 2004, with effect from 1 July 2005.

So effectively, Gerrard could quit Liverpool for a small sum too. As could Ronaldo, Lampard, Terry and so forth.

Something to do with "freedom of movement".

Why they even bother having contracts is beyond me.

So did Ronaldo.

Pretty sure Barry didn't though. I'm glad he didn't screw Villa over, because it takes a real... heartless bar-steward.

I can't believe i've forgotten the word i was looking for. It's evading me.

Someone please, this is really annoying me. What do you call someone who jumps ship or helps/fights for the side he's supposed to be fighting against?

As for that rule, i don't like it. Basically, it means any contract over 3 years in, is pretty much worthless, if you're dealing with someone who will jump ship for an extra bit of cash without a care in the world for his current employer... a certain Ashley Cole springs to mind. Next season he'll probably buy out his contract to land himself a move to Man City or QPR if it means his wallet will be inflated.

Yeah, that's the one. Thanks a lot.

It was really bugging me. I probably would've been thinking about it in bed when i'm trying to get to sleep, so thanks. You're a sleep saver!

Not that i'm sad enough to lose that much sleep over it!

Ah i mis-read. Thought it meant 3 years after the player had initially signed for the club.

That is a little less absurd then.

Rafael Benitez will try and sign Gareth Bale in Janurary, he is Rafa's main target. He wants him to play on the left of midfield, Reira was a panic buy and Rafa doesn't think he will be good enough now that he's seen him training and playing for almost a month. My friends family are good mates with the Bale family and he has told me his Dad believes if they match the valuation we put on him Gareth will be leaving. He said that Gareth is ambitious but really appreciates what Tottenham did for him bringing him to the premier league and would be happy to stay if Liverpool didn't stump up the cash. Also his Dad believes that if we dont get Champion s League football within Bale's contract length he will be leaving and heading to one of the big, very unlikely it would be Arsenal.

He doesn't have the technique for Arsenal and flat out isn't good enough for Chelsea or Man Utd so Liverpool seems likely. Rafa will probably shell out close to £20m and proceed to play him at centre back and then wonder why his players don't perform.

We wont sell Agger. Not a chance. His time will come. He would be foolish to leave. I cant see there being any truth in that story.

I have also seen links lining us up for a move for Bale. I doubt it has anything to do with Reira though. Reira looks good from what I have seen. He must be playing woeful in training if Rafa wants Bale to replace him as left winger fos us. I can guarantee it wont be for that reason. We are keen to buy some good attacking full backs to fit into the system Rafa is trying to deploy, Bale fits that bill. No shock really that we are linked with him. I would be happy if we signed him, but I cant see it happening.

If Yobbo replaced Riera for Dossena it may be mildly believeable.

We're being linked with a move for Sao Paolo centre-back Aislon now. Supposed to be very highly rated. 20 years old.

I can only imagine he'd have to be a remarkable prospect to spend money in this position with Agger and Skrtel already for the future.

That or Agger could actually leave.

We've also been linked with Lennon. Urgh.
