Can't see that happening unless we're planning on shafting Aurelio or pulling the plug on Dossena. I'd see us going for a RB in case Degen doesn't get healthy soon.

I agree (as much as I rate Arbeloa) but noone really springs to mind.

Seems like there is a bit of a premium on top class Right Backs at the moment. Just got to look at how much Barcelona and Chelsea paid for Alves and Bosingwa in the summer.

Alan Hutton? Laughing According to rumours anyway.

------ Bale ----- Agger ---- Carragher ---- Hutton ----

Our defence; post-January. It's a shame Northern Ireland are crap else we could have a representative from each of the British nations in our four-man defence.

I can't honestly see us getting Bale though, not in Jan anyway. It'd mean offloading Aurelio if we did, anyway. And spending an awful lot on two left-backs in the space of 6 months.

Liverpool Eye Valencia

Wigan winger Antonio Valencia is understood to be a top target for Liverpool when the transfer window reopens in January.

Valencia was watched regularly by Anfield scouts in the second half of last season and remains a potential target for boss Rafa Benitez.

Valencia, who has also been linked with United, has again been in sparkling form and is being closely monitored.

Latics boss Steve Bruce will do his best to keep the Ecuador international but Wigan will find it hard to turn down a sizeable cash offer in the New Year. There has even been talk of a cash plus player deal involving Jermaine Pennant, who Bruce managed at Birmingham.

Meanwhile, Bruce has rubbished reports that an agreement has already been struck with Manchester United for midfield star Wilson Palacios.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has also said again that no firm offer has been made from any club at this stage for either Valencia or Palacios.

I would be happy with him in the squad, to be honest. We need someone on the right to offer what Riera can - then on the left we have a natural wide player in the aforesaid and a forward in Babel, and on the right a forward in Kuyt and a natural wide player in Valencia (or whoever). At the moment Riera is the only person in our squad to offer natural width so he's having to be an ever-present fixture in our side.

But as i'll say with any rumours between now and January, i'll believe it when it happens.

We're again being linked with Jakub Blaszczykowski ("Kuba"), the Polish right-sided midfielder from Dortmund. He's young and i've heard some good things about him from certain areas.

He'd be cheap from what i can gather.

He's not bad from what I've seen in his time at Dortmund. Not really Liverpool quality though.

So Far Liverpool have been linked with Lennon, Hutton, Bale and now Bentley. Would Liverpools fans want any of them??

If I was a Liverpool fan I'd take Lennon, Hutton and Bale. Lennon only if it wouldn't cost too much, he could do an excellent job coming off the bench. Hutton and Bale are class and you haven't really got a target man so Bentley's crossing would be of little affect.

already? Where did you here this?

I would be happy with the services of Bale and Hutton. If Lennon was on the cheap then perhaps as an impact player, but his final product is woefull as we all know. Probably would be no point. Keep Pennant. Wouldnt really want Bentley, wouldnt fit in.

Oh right. Iv not read any papers recently or been on the look out on tut websites. Would love Bale and think Hutton would b a really really good addition as well. Be happy with both of them. Few more Brits in the team would be nice.

I'd be happy with both the full-backs. They'd improve us.

Lennon and Bentley i don't think have what it takes to be a success at a big club. Not least because of their respective attitudes. I wouldn't really want either of them - the improvement, if any, would be too minimal (we need to be making bigger steps than we have in the market...).

Oh, and i'd take Modric from you YoBBo also. Wink

Stick him behind Torres where he's best, move Keane into Kuyt's role and drop Gerrard deeper into midfield.

Wham!

----------------------------- Torres -----------------------------

-- Babel/Riera ------------ Modric -------------- Keane ------

------------------ Gerrard --------------------------------------

---------------------------------- Mascherano -----------------

----- Bale --- Agger/Skrtel ---- Carragher ---- Hutton -----

------------------------------ Reina ----------------------------

I'd hate to know what side that'd leave you guys with. Laughing

Sorry mate this made me laugh. You'd rather have Modric, a player who is yet to prove himself in the league instead of one Xabi Alonso, one of your best players!? Confusing Confused

And also, what is all this talk of Bale & Hutton joining you guys? That won't happen! Some of the stories a poor start to the season can generate is ridiculous.

I'd rather have Arbeloa than Hutton as well.

Bale ain't all that either.

Modric hasn't been great either, and as you said angrydave, Alonso is a ready-made Liverpool player who's proven himself in the Premiership over a season or two unlike the young Croat*. Forcing Keane out wide and bringing Modric into a central attacking position would be a big waste as well IMO.

* when I say Croat, I don't mean it as racist, just a shortened term for Croatian. Wink

Ok but you will have to outbid Juventus who are rumoured to be bidding in the high 20 millions. Shocked

Modric hasn't been great in an utterly malfunctioning Spurs side. You'd be pretty silly to judge him on his time there, where as a young player in a completely new, bigger (footballing stature wise) country he's been looked on to be the focus of a struggling side and make everything happen offensively. He's having so much asked of him. But Modric very much aside, i think we can do better than Alonso anyway - he'll have to show much more consistency for me to begin to be convinced.

Watch Kuyt play. Keane wouldn't be out wide at all. Most of the time he'd be in and around the penalty box. Nearly all the time in fact (when we're attacking anyway).

And, Hutton > Degen. Although i actually think we need a more gung-ho right-back (because of how Kuyt plays) in the mould of Bosingwa, Alves, whoever (hard to find i know), that can then own that right flank. There wouldn't be too much point in buying someone of similar ability (not in the long term anyhow).

The formation i posted wasn't exactly fashioned with much seriousness at all, folks.

I will have to disagree with you there Axe Man, Bale has been outstanding in nearly every game for Wales and Spurs he has played, apart from the occasional few, but he is still only 19 years of age. Berbatov whilst at Spurs said he was absolutely fantastic and was going to be a fantastic player. Hutton is very good aswell, he is better than Arbeloa if you ask me. He is just as quick, gets forward more, stronger and better in the air.

I agree with that but you also have to remember even if they didn't sign Modric there is a good chance Rafa will continue to play keane out wide anyway. He has already started playing him wide, there is no chance of you signing him anyway if the rumours that are continuing today are true, 25+ million being rumoured today. There is a good chance that this is a load of balls but I still cant see Modric ever joining Liverpool from us.

I dont want Modric. It would be a lot of money to not really fit in anywhere. It would never happen anyways, so lets leave that one alone.
