We should buy a goalkeeper to break even with what we sold Itandje for. We're not losing money over a back-up.

Especially considering Reina never, ever gets injured.

Although someone to keep the pressure on his position would be nice.

He'll probably break his legs on holiday now after saying that.

In other news, Crouch is set to sign for Portsmouth for around £10m. That deal looks as though it has been confirmed pretty much.

I don't really know much (or to be more precise, anything at all whatsoever) about this Diego Cavalieri dude, so just thought i'd post the opinions of two people i've found; notably a Liverpool fan Living in Brazil, who watches the guy week-in, week-out.

I hope so!!!

He is a great keeper, he would push Reina all the way. He has the potential to be the best keeper to ever come out of Brazil. Marcos is Palmeiras' No 1 at the moment, and that is mostly due to him being a legend around these parts. Diego is a much better keeper. He has time on his side though. He does have an Italian family, so he shouldn't have any problems getting a passport.

I would be very very VERY happy if we signed this guy. As good as Reina in my eyes.

Nope mate, I have seen him play many times in person. He is quick like Reina, amazing at shot stopping, good at saving pens and his distribution is as good as Pepe's. He is about the same age too. I am not exaggerating at all. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time. He makes breathtaking saves and makes you wonder how the hell he managed that. He has also been a no 2 to Marcos off and on for 3 years now, so it shows he isn't a trouble maker and is a patient person. But when called upon, when Marcos is injured, he is more than capable. I wouldn't be shocked if he helped us win the FA Cup next season if we get him

I am also SURE he could get an Italian passport.

Well I have some news from the Club (Palmeiras). Diego is in Liverpool at the moment talking over the move. So it does look like we are the club after him. This is from a person in the club, a friend of Diego himself. Around 3 Million is the fee which if true, is a bargain!!! Gomes who just went to Spurs isn't half the keeper Diego is and we got him 3 times cheaper. So a great deal by Rafa. He is much better than Carson and has the potential to be even better than Reina. I am extremely happy if this one comes off. We will have the best No 2 in Europe.

Diego kind of reminds me of a Tim Flowers. At his peak. Anyone who will remember him when he played for Southampton will remember that on some days, there was nothing you can do to beat the guy. I have seen him play for Palmeiras in games and it has been one way traffic all at the Palmeiras end and he has made about 6 world class saves to keep it to 0, then Palmeiras goes and scores at the other end to win the game 1-0. He basically stopped the game ending in a 4-1 or more loss. Keepers are very important in a team, probably the most important area. Rafa wants two class players in every position. At the moment we only have Reina. Signing Diego will send a message to Reina and tell him not to get too comfortable, there is a top class keeper behind you waiting to get the chance to shine.

If Diego were English, he would be around 20 Million. He is better than any English keeper out there at the moment. I am not judging him on youtube vids either, I have seen him many times for real. I rate him very highly. He has the potential to be one of the best in the world.

At the moment of course no. He isn't so great with the ball at his feet and crosses and handling needs some work too, but everything else is peachy. He just always seems to be in the right place at the right time. I think he will learn well from Reina and vice versa. They might improve each others game. He is a good guy too, always respectful. He will work very hard to get to be No 1, but at the same time, he isn't going to spit the dummy out like Carson if he is benched for 20 games on the trot. He is confidant that when he gets the chance, he will show how good he is. I met him and he is a very down to earth person who will be a brilliant addition to our squad. I hate the fact that he has left my team here in Brazil, but I love the fact that he is signing for Liverpool. I would hate to see him play for anyone else.

I've watch a lot of Goalissimo, a football highlights programme on CH4.

It shows a lot of Brazilian football. I remember in last seasons championship watching games when he made some outstanding saves and kept them in some games.

I can't comment on his all round game, or his consistency, but what I have seen (which isn't a great deal) he looks like a very good shot stopper. That doesn't mean I'm expecting big things from him, but at least I've seen what he CAN do, and RIB's comments are very promising.

Surely better than Itandje anyway. I also don't rate Carson that highly - he's good but not a top 4 keeper at all IMO, never feel quite comfortable when he's played for us, and the our defence seemed to be thinking the same as well.

I suspect he may be slightly exaggerating, but he sounds hopeful anyway. As long as he's 'solid' i'll be happy. Someone to do well in the cups and give Reina competition.

Heard rumours that Steve Finnan is now being offered to Villa as a part exchange for Barry. Sad to see Finnan bow out this way really.

Suarez is a good player. I only really followed him in the first half last season, but in that time he was very good.

Mark my words Voronin will be a huge improvement for this season, he will be like having a new signing.
At the start of last season i thought he chipped in well with some goals and assists and fit in well, it was only after the injury where he didn't look right. The reason being he had not gelled with the rest of the squad, after this pre-season i think you'll see a difference. He was never brought in to be a 20 a season striker, he is more of a playmaker, a bit like a Luis Garcia, can score but is more of a man round the box to deliver the killer pass.

Also i'm very sad to see Peter go as it looks like its nearly a done deal, but if the papers and speculation is right we could have Robbie Keane from Spurs which would be a very good signing IMO.

Also i've heard Stewart Downing's name being mentioned here and there, be a good player for the left wing and also and England International.

Must admit i had a we laugh. Is a big fib, i have not seen him as much as this guy does i guess since this guy is from brazil but i have seen him a fair few times this season when watching them on setanta and i still feel Liverpool could do alot better than him for back up.

That other guy has clearly seen more of him than you though, so i'm inclined to go with what he said. You may have just seen him on his bad days.

If someone only watched a handful of Petre Cech's games last season, and they happened to be Reading, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool CL sLeg, as well as the Euros, then they probably wouldn't think he was fit to be our 4th choice goal keeper.

Liverpool have completed a deal for Denmark Under-18 international forward Nikola Saric.

The 17-year-old former Herfolge player has signed a four-year contract, which is thought to be worth about £900,000.

The left-footed Saric is a versatile attacker and can play on the left or right wing or as a central striker.

He spent some time on trial with SC Heerenveen at the Otten Cup tournament, hosted by PSV Eindhoven, from the end of May to the start of June.

Another youngster on the books for Liverpool

No offence mate but were we watching the same player???? I thought Voronin was woeful last season and he downright simply isnt good enough to wear the red shirt of LFC. Down the years I've seen some players come and go that we're qustionable as far as talent goes but Voronin lacks any ball control, any direction and he just looks so wrong with a ball at his feet. You only have to listen to John Aldridges commentary on the local radio to get an idea of a LFC legends opinion on the long haired lummox. In no way do I bear any malice for Voronin I just feel that he's way out of his depth and nowhere near the level of player we need if we are serious about making a push for the title. I'd rather give Nemeth, Pacheco or even Sarin a shot than to waste time picking someone that surely cannot be a longterm pawn in Rafa's plans........I'll re-iterate one of my earlier posts......PPPPPPLLLLLLLEEEEAAAASSSSEEEE somebody sign Andrei Voronin!!!!

Voronin isn't bad. He had a good start to the season, and many Liverpool fans were surprised by how much he impressed initially... then injury struck! He's not the best, but his sublime flick assist for Stevie G against Besiktas wasn't the sign of a useless lummox with no ability.

There seems to be some Voronin bashing bandwagon going around, and most Liverpool fans seem to have jumped on it. I'm not really a fan myself, but he isn't as bad as people make out, and i, despite wanting to see Nemeth get a crack at the first team, wouldn't mind keeping Voronin as backup.

And not all is lost as Babel can play up front anyway if Torres is resting or hurt and Benayoun can be stuck in the left.

My bashing of Andrei Voronin has always been reserved for my own amusememnt and I wasn't even aware that there was a bandwagon to be jumped on so I can assure you I'm not just following suit. It's an opinion of mine, and obviously as you've brought to my attention, various other fans. ALl I think is that, and it's not Voronins fault, is that he's out of his depth playing for our club. I grant you he did show little flashes earleir on in the season but these were more or less in pre-season friendlies, especially his 'wonder-strike' that he smashed in from distance. Once he got some games in teh Premiership he struggled to make an impact and at times the games passed him by and the more he fluffed shots the lesser his confidence and participation in the game became. He admitted himself he was having trouble settling into Merseyside life, again not his fault and again not a knock on him, although his fashion taste has to be questioned lol! Very Happy Maybe he has a place in teh squad for cup games but I wouldn't even want him on the bench as i'd like to hope that we could have a backup of 'impact' players who when brought on would be able to change a game that we our chasing into our favour and quite simply Voronin hasn't showed any potential to be able to do this.

I take into account that he has his fans and everyone should be given time to get accustomed to the game here but when we had Crouch as backup and Voronin was getting played ahead of him, a player who was accustomed to the Premiership, a player who could influence games and more importantly a player who knew were the goal was, it was most frustrating.

I am whole-heartedly behind anyone who pulls on a red shirt and I will follow them into hell, I just cannot see how Voronin can benefit us in anyway shape or form. One 'nice flick' against Besiktas doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. They were a team that were dead and buried long before the final whistle and were past the point of even playing for pride.

In my opinion, and it's only a humble man's opinion, Voronin is the worst player I have seen pull on a red shirt. I have grown up watching the likes of David Speedie, Istvan Kozma, Paul Stewart, Torben Piechnik et al, and I have never been as demoralised as I have when I have seen either Voronin in the first team or being readied as a sub.

But once again I reiterate I support every player that pulls on a red shirt, I just don't always feel that they deserve the honour of being able to do so.
