So now that Philadelphia have been awarded the 16th franchise in MLS, the now new front runner has become St. Louis.

Miami is however still in the running for a team, and most recently Detroit has been talked about.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber said St. Louis is now at the front of the line to be team No. 17. "I've said this many times before, and I'll say it again," Garber said. "We'd like St. Louis to be our next team. We want a team in St. Louis. We need teams in the Midwest." Garber emphasized that the only impediment -- "The last piece of the puzzle" -- is the financial depth of Jeff Cooper's ownership group. Solve that problem, he reiterated, and St. Louis will get a team.

St. Louis would be great. St. Louis University is a national powerhouse in soccer and they can get some home-grown talent to join them.

Yes, 2009 is Seattle, 2010 is Philadelphia. (this year, as many already know is San Jose) 2007 was Toronto FC.

Is there a specific number of teams they would like the MLS to have?

I don't think so, they just want to expand. I'm actually a bit worried with the quick rate that they are expanding. The teams are not deep as it is, and this will just water down the talent even more so.

Eventually I think they want a team a state - and do something like what NFL do
