Eugenio Fascetti, the coach responsible for launching Antonio Cassano’s career, says that once the player steps onto the football pitch he has these moments when he is just out of control.

Fascetti was boss of Bari when Cassano famously burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old with a wonder-goal against Inter Milan.
Cassano hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons at the weekend when he went absolutely berserk after being sent off in the 87th minute of Sampdoria’s match with Torino in Genoa.

The 25-year-old shouted out obscenities before taking his shirt off and throwing it at the referee. This behaviour saw Cassano suspended for five games by the Italian FA and fined €14,000.

“It will now be very difficult for him to get into the national fold,” Fascetti admitted.

“Cassano is instinctive. In private he is the calmest boy in the world, but once on the pitch he has these moments which he can't control.”

Cassano’s behaviour has been universally condemned by figures in the Calcio community, and former Roma and Brescia Coach Carlo Mazzone has also hit out at the forward.

“He needs to understand that he didn't invent football and that he hasn't got the power to do what he wants,” Mazzone blasted in typical fiery fashion.

He did it again, unfortunatly he's not going to change. He's a huge talent would be a shame if he will waste it

It a shame he behaves in such petulant manner. He is very talented. Always has been since he first started.

I feel slightly ashamed for him. He shouldn't be at Sampdoria. He should be playing, for a much greater team. He clearly has some issues with authority figures.
