The Club was renamed Bristol City Football Club and became a limited company in 1897 after a meeting in the Albert Hall, Bedminster. Ian Hollis of Woolwich Arsenal was engaged as manager and provided with £40 to assemble a worthy team.

In 1900 Bristol City merged with Bedminster F.C. who played their matches at Ashton Gate. City were elected to the Football League Division Two in 1901 winning the Championship in 1905-06.

The following year saw them finish runners-up in Division One - the clubs highest ever placing. In 1909 the club reached its one and only Cup Final, when they lost 0-1 to Manchester United.
