but what I mean is - you barely realise that she's there, and then she appeares exactly where she should be when you need her to be there Exactly, the sign of a good player for that type of position, keeps things together and sorted, makes the big stop or tackle when needed and can score off set pieces as well as with her head.....That's what I mean when I say she's nothing 'flashy'..... |

Sorry Mr O., I don't get all the English expressions
I'm glad we agree though -------------------------------------------- From FIFA.com: Gala: an evening full of suspense! 19 Dec 2005 The FIFA World Player Gala takes place on Monday 19th December at Zurich Opera House. (I used to live next to it, lol) The evening's entertainment includes the presentation of the men's and women's FIFA World Player awards, along with three other trophies. The theme for the evening, to be attended by 1,000 guests, will be "football meets dance". At 21:30 in Zurich on Monday 19th December, the two lucky winners of the FIFA World Player titles will be announced. As the world awaits the coronation of either Samuel Eto'o, Frank Lampard or Ronaldinho among the men, or Shannon Boxx, Marta or Birgit Prinz in the women's category, the suspense is reaching its peak. But before the big moment, the Fair Play Award, the Presidential Award and the Interactive World Player Award will all embellish an evening animated by the Zurich Ballet led by Heinz Spoerli. FIFA.com will commence its coverage in the afternoon, with the six nominees' press conferences. This will be followed by detailed descriptions of this exceptional evening, plus the reactions of the six star players after the ceremony. Full programme for the day: 16:00: Press conferences of the six nominees 20:00: World Player Gala FIFA Fair Play Award Prize-Giving FIFA Interactive World Player Prize-Giving Presidential Award Prize-Giving Women's World Player Prize-Giving Men's World Player Prize-Giving |

It's quite a shame that - someone told me that Marta was so good she made KS look like a small-time player.
So, how good is Prinz then |

I was having a browse through the votes last week and I found it interesting to see who actually voted for Kel for example Prinz voted for Smith in second place so that is pleasing to see that the actual winner thought Kelly was in the top three in the world. It does seem strange to me that the captains of countries like Germany, USA, Denmark and Nigeria all voted for her but the captains and coaches from the UK & Ireland who you would have expected to have seen Kelly in action more often decided not to vote for her. I think that if Kel keeps up her current form next year she will certainly finish higher than tenth position in the list. I hope so anyway as she is such a nice person and is well deserving of such a great award, which I’m sure would give more exposure to the game in the UK. I still reckon that Kelly would swap any individual award for her side picking up trophies, as she seems to focus on the team rather than looking for her own personal glory. |

Very good post Gooner4ever,
I was thinking exactly the same and even discussed it with Agent W. outside the board. It pi$$es me off to see Prinz win, her glory times when she was amazing everyone are long gone, people who haven't seen her play recently, still think she's great, but she's way worse from what she has been during 2003 WWC or WUSA times. There are far better footballers in the world, even - like Agent W. has said - in her own team! I can't believe she has won again this year, some people should realise that it was 2005 they should think of while voting, not the whole players' career times. |

Couldn't agree more with Agent Smith! Prinz is a good player, but there are so many more that can do exactly what she can and more. If Prinz keeps winning this award it only shows that womens football isn't really going forward, which would be sad

It is sad. I used to like Prinz a few years ago, she was so powerfull on the field, could do everything with the ball. Now she's became boring, she only scores when someone passes the ball straight at her. Unlike for example Kelly Smith - when she enters the field, I get the feeling that all her team mates get in their positions and wait for orders haha A true team leader, fantastic skills, perfect touch on the ball, accurate passes, and not only she rules in the midfield and scores, I even saw her defending - a COMPLETE player, what else do you need in a footballer miss Grant? |

Yes Kelly was injured and did not play much in 2005
but when she was playing, she was great, just as I described it in my previous post. I am not saying she deserves the award, I'm saying that Prinz doesn't. There are much better footballers than Birgit, like Marta, Boxx, Lingor or Ljungberg. It's only my opinion of course, feel free do disagree |

yeah we do remember that she didnt play much of last season , but when she does play she is outstanding. that's the point we were trying to make.
even at the beginning of this season when she wasnt fully fit she had such an impact on the games. i was at the bristol academy match in september where she came on midway thru the 2nd half and the game changed dramatically. she adds such a touch of class and has been such an influential player, even tho she hasnt played as much as other players in the past year. it was the same at fulham, Arsenal looked a different side when she was on the pitch - it went a bit downhill after she went off to be honest. and england definitely looked a better side in the euros when kelly was on the pitch. and her goal against the czech republic = CLASS i never thought she'd win cos she hadnt played as much, but surely we're allowed to big-up our national treasure!!! |

I agree

Prinz is good, but like was said on here, its getting boring! The mens seem to have a different superstar every year, but the womens game is stuck at the moment on having miss Prinz as the "number 1"
Next year hopefully if kelly stays out of the physio room she will be right up there! I know I'd vote for her!!! |
