Soooo confusing!
Why the conner99 then?
You have some serious explaining to do Dean, if that is your real name.

i wanted to use Deanoson ...nickname at Karate ...but the registration would not let me at the time ...so then i thought of using a character from the Tv show Angel ....the vampire guy Angle had as on called Conner ...so i chose that ...no idea why i added 99 to the end ...maybe plain Conner had been use already .

Yes - but a bit late now I suppose.

Maybe you could change your name to Dean, and we could all be confused Very Happy

I see you still have this problem. Can't you add a simple validation?

Code:

if(strlen($post) == 0) {

    Do Nothing

} else {

   Add New Thread

}

Or maybe use a method like the osCommerce spiders.txt

My feedback...

I don't like the new automated system. It is bringing up far too many pointless topics. As someone has already mentioned, if people want to talk about it, a topic will be created. Things coming up now are pointless. I've just seen 2 articles from the Carling Cup final in the Spurs section. We have all discussed that already. If people want to read interviews or reports, they will go on the sky sports website, or BBC or something like that. It is just filling up pages with unnecessary drivel.

Yeh and also its added threads like the one in the Spurs section about, " Spurs player Carrick hoping for England call up "

That is 2 years old news now.

It has been tried and tested, but I think it should be put down as a failure.
Fair play for trying new ideas. The customise forum one worked, but this idea, no.

It is still experiencing a few early teething problems, but it is improving definitely with topics being put in the right sections. I know there are still old topics but I am sure that will be sorted.

It isn't automated, it is Googlebot etc that is starting the threads. Once the techies have stopped that happening, these pointless threads won't appear.

Another way round it would be to have the link available to logged in users only. The bots won't see it then.

On first viewing I think it was better when we could choose what we wanted to discuss ourselves.

The whole idea behind this is so that new users can chose what they want to discuss also. As mentioned above, the reason these new topics are being auto generated is because of google bots crawling the site - activating the discuss this topic button...

Once we sort that, it will only be done by real live people. So topics will not be posted unless someone actually logs in and clicks the option to discuss the news artical.

There is a lot of work going on in the background to make the site more user friendly. At the moment, because the work is being done, we will have some teething problems - unfortunately we cannot avoid this for the time being.

just wondered though , how does this live person know that the subject is not already being discussed . I mean the Birmingham v Newcastle thread for example ... we have a new member clicking on our story
Keegan: Owen is world-class on the front page . I would consider that to be not really necessary as a new thread .. ?

Of course there will be times where we get pointless topics still being made - but we get that anyway by certain members already on the forum.

As for duplicate topics, we will have to deal with them on an individual basis.

ok...sorry if i seem to be criticizing this new system , i was just thinking if new members click on these links and make new threads that are not really needed it defeats the whole point of asking them to `have their say`

if i were a new member i would be thinking `first they say `have you say` then a mod comes along and deletes the thread saying the topic can be discussed here .

Know what i mean ....you can tell me to shut up if you like ... Wink
