From what I have understood speaking with people - Benitez is seriously interested in Lennon. He rates him very highly & is keen to see him at Anfield. He also thinks he would be able to get him at a very good price. Obviously his price wouldnt be as high as 18 months ago. As I said before, Comolli has been to Liverpool several times recently & has held talks with Rick Parry. I wouldnt be too surprised to see some transfers between the two clubs go through in the summer. Watch this space.

As for David Villa, I was told to forget Manchester United & Chelsea as likely destinations.
People are saying Spurs are the club Villa's going to be at in the not too distant future & that noise is coming from numerous different people who have differing agenda's - but are all ultimately saying the same thing. He's WHL bound.

There are alot of rumours now, such as

Alonso and 2 mil for Lennon
Villa to come to Spurs, but i think if he did hed just be using us to show the big boys he can be a good player in the prem.

I think you guys are being a bit harsh on Lennon, yes hes ot as good as people made him out to be but hes still a decent player. Will give you natural width which would give Gerrard more room to work in the centre.

If i was a conceptual and photoshop guru id whip up a cunning graphic of the premeirship bent over infront of a Berbs and Villa strikeforce with a large phallic object extending from them into said premierships behind.

You dont want Xabi to go anywhere. Fact.

Theres a crucial floor in your plan. You are not Rafa Benitez so you dont make the decisions

Im not saying he is leaving but there is a possibility of everyone leaving, from any club to any club.

Its true that I dont want Xabi to leave but all this newspaper crap about how he's made his peace with Rafa after not travelling to Italy as his wife was about to drop is laughable.

There is a load more dead wood to leave Liverpool before any quality player is even muted to be leaving, especially one as talented as Alonso.

I was sorry to see Luis go but the guy had a chance to play for the club he supported as a boy. Too strong a draw ... he was gutted when he left anyway.

Really Shocked

Just i thought Alonso wanted to leave, but wanted to stay in the prem and Villa wanted a move to a big club.

I think we could get Alonso if Liverpool do actually want Lennon.

Alonso we need, or a player of his position. Villa would be a luxury, we have two of the top five scorers in the league already at the club, dont get me wrong id love to get him to the Lane but the midfield is the priority, a quality midfield will sort out the defence too.

Ben, thought you weren't convinced siging Villa would be a goodmove?

I ain't. I ain't convinced of anyone anymore to be honest. I don't think we'll go for any of the 'star' players, maybe the heights being Ricardo Quaresma... If not him i think we'll go for a more obscure signing, like Babel was.

The problem we have is that our main position of weakness is right-wing - of our 5 midfield positions that's the one that's void of a quality starter. Hence we want to see someone of a higher calibre brought in, rather than Lennon - i couldn't see us signing two right-sided players, not if we were to spend a fair amount on Lennon. We need to use our summer to purchase first-team players, to certify a best 11, and Lennon isn't the way to do that... If we don't have a lot to spend in the summer it'd be incredibly frustrating to waste money on players that really are not in any way shape or form a priority.

I'm not really saying Lennon's a bad player, but we have bigger priorities, like signing a quality winger (a player of the standard of the big three) as well as two quality full-backs. Lennon would be a squad player and for me that's not what we need to be looking at.

The main reason for the speculation around Alonso was to begin with the fact that he couldn't really get into the side - we had Mascherano and Gerrard and he's second best to either of them. But with a new formation we've settled for in recent weeks, playing with three central midfielders, that isn't a problem. In fact he's integral to our side.

The other reason for him leaving was a supposed 'rift', which was the usual media trash. The first thing was that Rafa said he needed to improve his form, which he did, and is showing good signs - the other was with the birth of his kid, where Benitez basically told him to go and be there rather than in Milan, obviously not being able to hang around not knowing where he stands. Neither are worthy reasons for leaving.

If he did leave i'd put money on it being back to Spain to be honest.

Are you serious?

You think we need to new full backs now? What's wrong with ?Finnan and Arbeloa? Surely one of them is good enough to fill the right side?!

Arbeloa is good, i think you need a left back though, dont rate Aurelio at all and it looks like Riise may be off aswell.

Finnan's getting past it in my opinion - his one superb performance this season has come against Inter Milan, where otherwise he's been poor, and that's not good enough. If he could find form he'd be perfect, although some replacement inevitably needs to be lined up soon as he is getting old regardless of form.

As for Arbeloa, i was extremely impressed with him early in the season but he's petered out a bit - i think mainly it's his ability to go forward which is questionable, and that limits our attack somewhat if our full-backs don't support our wingers.

We do need a left-back for sure, as Aurelio (aside from being injury-prone) is debatable defensively.

In my opinion we need three players and that's a right-winger and two full-backs. Those are our three weak positions in my opinion. Oh and obviously if Crouch leaves we'll need a replacement.

Arbeloa isn't bad going forward, and is very good defensively. I'm more than happy with him. I've seen him do amazing things going forward, so it's not like he doesn't have the ability - he just needs to do it more often. But still, for me, being able to defend well is far more important for a full back.

Aaron Lennon - Could he be leaving WHL ?
