This post is not aimed at any one person! I would just like to ask everybody to stop the petty squabbling. This forum is for people to learn and for people to give advice etc, so please can it be stopped. I joined this forum to learn and thus far I have, however in the last few days It has mostly been people arguing. I'm 15 and this will sound very silly but GROW UP.
What I would like to ask is What is it like coaching everyday, every morning, how does it feel? I can't wait, and what is it like being an academy coach? Many thanks Matt |

Hi All
I first took my level 1 in Aug 2003 and passed my level 3 last month, i hope the following info will help. Level 1 A leadership award aimed at all volunteers at grassroot level, to be honest you have to be a complete numpty to fail, even then you would probably pass. The course mainly consists of 2 full days and 2 evenings (or another full day). The course includes basic emergency first aid, child protection and plenty of drills to give you ideas. You also have to sit the soccer parent test on the FA website. Level 2 A totally different course to level 1. 90 hours in total, more technical and skill related upto Small Sided Games (SSG) 6 x 6. The whole course is based on your external topics 2 & 3. Example of topic 2 is 4 v 2, 3 v 1 etc, topic 3 is a SSG. You can only coach the external topics when you have completed the pack which consists of player profiling, nutrition, team analysis etc. Level 3 Not as many hours as level 2, but just as intense. The pack consists of preparing a 12 months training schedule for your team and from that 12 month, take 10 weeks out and prepare coaching plans\sessions, these sessions plans are decided after completing 3 match analysis on your team and drafting up the summary. The pack also includes psychological aspects of football, drugs in football and more. The drills are based around segments of a game, functional practice, phase of play and SSG which are 8v8. The minimum number you coach is 6 and each session is 20 minutes Above is a brief description of the courses content, as previously stated the FA website has further details and the knowledge you learn during the course changes the way you watch football and can only help you develop as a coach. With Level 2 you need to be working with 12/13 year olds, with Level 3 I would say a min age of 16, if you coach younger teams try and affiliate yourself with an older age group – you would benefit greatly. |

I suppose thinking about it, 3 years is a quick, fortunate to work as a volunteer with a chartered standard club and the opoprtunities were there.
In return the club has now achieved community status. Now the effort starts in trying to find a suitable vacancy with a local club to hopefully progess further. |

cshipley thank you very much for your help so far and ive had a look at the the londonfa website i need to wait till next year now (i know only two week or so away) because all of 2006 is booked.
I like idea of my name up in lights I just want to confirm that the following the right course i am look at: Course Breakdown Pre-course requisites: FA Child Protection and best practice FA Emergency Aid - 6 Hours Distance learning: Soccer Parent, Laws of the Game, Football Administration, Player and Coach Development - 8 Hours Practical coaching: twenty five games internal assessment - 8 Hours External assessment: delivery of fifteen minute session and five minutes feedback - 8 Hours There is a requirement for students to attend all tutor contact sessions Course duration: 30 hours Course Cost: £ 95.00 Also id like to Congratulate boltamb on him getting his badges, u really are an insperation to aspiring coaches. Also is it possible to complete level 1 and 2 with in a year or is that pushing it. |

you got the right course!
the pre-requisites will be covered within the course, the distance learning can be done in a few hours online. The leap between Level1 and Level2 is quite substantial! IMO, I would wait at least a year or two if your not so experienced at coaching, because Level2 takes a lot of time and effort! Pass rate is at best approximately 40% for Level2, so its not worth arriving unprepared! You will probably find your Level1 tutor or assessor will tell you if you are ready for Level2 after your course. With your Level1, go get a junior teams coaching role and learn the ropes first hand! You will probably find they will pay for your Level2 when they think your ready! |

your level 2 course will take you about six months to a year, if you start now you will get the chance to build your own experience at a higher level. Also, whilst your on your course, ask the trainers if they can recommend anyone you can watch coaching. If not if you go along to your local academy they will more than likely allow you to watch them coach.

Normala, to be honest with you i'm not sure what courses would be available in your country, but in the uk there are many courses that can be taken to improve your coaching knowledge. Since you've a lot of coaching experience you would probably be able to start at level 2 which would take 6 months for you to complete.
hope that helps |
