Southampton were beaten 2-0 at home by Wigan and are yet to get their first point after returning to the Premier League , manager Nigel Adkins said after the game ." The Premier League is a relentless division. We had opportunities and didn't take them. You have to be ruthless, the harsh reality is you will be punished if you are not."

Can Southampton get their first points of the season against Man Utd ..?

Man Utd got their first win of the season at Old Trafford ...a narrow 3-2 win over Fulham ...Robin Van Persie scored a stunner on his home debut to equalise after Damien Duff had given Fulham a shock 3rd minute lead ..the first half saw four goals in total with Man Utd enjoying a 3-1 half time lead . The second half had the home fans a bit nervous after Vidic scored an own goal to give Fulham hope ..but thanks to some fine saves by De Gea , Man Utd grabbed all 3 pts .

Southampton were awful against Wigan last week and I can't see them taking anything in this game.

It looks like RVP will now be a regular starter with Rooney out injured and I can see him scoring again at St Marys.

My prediction - Southampton 0-3 Man Utd.

Did you know that Man United have lost three of their last four Premier League away matches.

Any more comments or predictions?

I wouldn't quite say we were awful as we hit the woodwork twice and had al habsi saving plenty of shots. The only reason we conceded the second is a silly mistake by fontč and we can't give silly gifts to the opposition. Replays show that it should have been a foul. But we were very below our usual level and we have brought in gaston Ramirez and Mayuka who are quick young and tricky attackers, but Ramirez won't be able to play against man u. We also got a new Japanese CB called yoshida but also can't play.

It will be tough but

Southampton 1-2 Man Utd

Rio Ferdinand is back in defence alongside Nemanja Vidic.

Will Sir Alex Ferguson win his 1,000 league match in charge of Man Utd?

Southampton 1-1 Man Utd
RVP fired in a left foot shot in the area to make it 2 goals in 2 games.

RVP missed a penalty.
He tried to be clever and clip it over the keeper but it all went wrong.

Southampton 2-2 Man Utd
RVP makes up for his earlier penalty miss with a late equaliser.

Result

Southampton 2-3 Man Utd
1-0 Lambert 16’
1-1 van Persie 23’
2-1 Schneiderlin 55'
2-2 van Persie 87’
2-3 van Persie 90’

RVP could have had 4 goals had he not messed up that penalty!

It turned out to be a happy afternoon in the end then for SAF in his 1,000 league match in charge of Utd.

Any comments on todays result?

We played well and were confident with our passing and were punished by poor marking in the end. Schniderlin played very well and so did puncheon and Lallana. Lambert scored another great goal and showed that he can cope with scoring against top defences. In the end RVP was just too good for our defence and we desperately need to get new signing Yoshida in the team as well. As well as £12M signing Ramirez.

We may have lost our first 3 games but it's early days yet and two of then were against last seasons top two. And Wigan was very annoying! The games don't get easier with Arsenal away and then everton but to stay in this league you have to win against the bigger teams! And not a lot of teams can say they scored 4 vs the Manchester clubs

well Robin Van Persie is still banging in the goals ....but for Man Utd unfortunately , great hatrick though ...would he have got a rollocking from Sir Alex had that penalty miss cost them the points ..in the end Southampton contributed to their own downfull ..two great headers to go 2-1 up , but Man Utd never give in and Paul Scholes got them back in the match ..you could just tell they were going to get the winner .
