Wigan had their first win in some time as they beat Aston Villa 3-0 ....it moved them out of the bottom three and was much needed for manager Roberto Martinez ..."It is not just the win against Aston Villa which is important - it's the three points we wanted. "You can't think anything until you reach 40 points, but today is a massive, massive boost."

Man Utd showed no signs of holiday hangovers as they beat West Brom 2-0 to remain 7 pts clear at the top of the table , manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping his side continue their current form into the new year .

Wigan will probably be up for this and will give Man Utd a hard game but Fergie's side should win all 3 points.

Wigan 1-2 Man Utd

FT

Wigan 0-4 Man Utd
0-1 Hernández 35'
0-2 van Persie 43'
0-3 Hernández 63’
0-4 van Persie 88’

Any comments on todays result?

Could Van Persie end up as both top scorer and player of the season again but with Man Utd this time?

if he keeps up his current scoring rate ...the answer is a simple yes , the man is just phenomenal at the moment . It will take something special to stop Man Utd winning the title this season .

Wigan's defending was terrible in this game which gifted Man Utd at least 2 goals.
I just can't see the Latics performing another miracle and escaping from relegation this time.

It looked like RVP and Hernandez both linked up very well together and the Red Devils
didn't seem to miss Rooney at all to make it a happy 71st birthday for Ferguson who was at least on his best behaviour!
