Reading v Liverpool

Postby Conner99 » Wed Apr 10, 2013 7:38 pm

Reading slumped to a 2-0 home defeat against Southampton and are now running out of matches in their desperate fight to avoid relegation , the fans showing their frustration started to leave the stadium near the end of the game and it will take something very special from new boss Nigel Adkins to keep their Premier League status now .

Liverpool fought out a goalless draw with West Ham and hopes of a place in europe next season are looking uncertain at the moment , the Reds mostly dominated the game but could not find the back of the net , manager Brendan Rodgers suggested West Ham had come to Anfield with no intention to win ..."The effort the players put in was very good. We just needed a bit of luck to go our way . "You have to give West Ham credit as they defended very well. I never for one moment thought they were going to win it. They got in some great blocks and are an honest group of players ,but only one team tried to win it and that was us, but we couldn't put the ball in the back of the net."

Reading are all but down now so Liverpool should be able to take advantage and win 3 points in this game.

Did you know that Reading have lost seven successive Premier League games, just one short of their top-flight record of eight straight defeats.

Any comments or predictions?

I think the reds will bounce back and win this, they always do when they have expressly
failed to deliver in a game. No doubt we will then lose to Chelsea at our place and then
beat Newcastle at St James ....Do we see a pattern developing ?

Reading are rock bottom, have lost their last 6 games and now Inconsistent FC roll into town..

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Reading won this game and made Liverpool look like amateurs like Southampton did.

The way we play i'm gonna say a 2-1 Reading win..

Reading 0-0 Liverpool FT

Whichever coach is doing shooting/finishing training at Liverpool he wants sacking this minute, another game we dominated, another game we had almost 30 attempts on goal and another game we didn't win..

Big mention to Mccarthy in Reading's goal...for some reason these stand in keepers seem to play the game of their life when they play Liverpool,Mark Bunn of Blackburn last year deputised for Paul Robinson and played out of his skin and today Mccarthy did the same and we couldn't beat him..

Very poor result again...can the season end now...no more of this please.

It looks like Liverpool are going to finish behind Everton in the table for a second year running!

McCarthy never had the right to get his hands to Suarez's shot, let alone catch it.
Absolutely first class display from the keeper. On any other day that's 0-5 to the
reds ,26 shots 15 on target tells the story of a damn good goalkeeping display.

The reds were a lot less lethargic than the West Ham game ,but Suarez looked as jaded
as I have ever seen him and Rodgers persistence in playing a two man midfield for away
games really is starting to slowly grate, plus his decision to substitute Henderson could
have handed Reading the impetus to force Gerrard and Lucas even further back.

Once again Gerrard plays the full 90 minutes when we have options like Suso on the bench
who has been like his old self in the reserves ,I would have personally pushed Henderson
into the middle and subbed Gerrard. I honestly cant wait to see how Suso links up with
Coutinho...... maybe next season ?

?

true , but many teams have had that happen to them ..Liverpool had 19 shots on goal against West Ham drew 0-0 , had 23 shots against West Brom yet lost 2-0 and had just 7 shots against Wigan yet won 4-0 . Mcarthy certainly earned Reading a point but Liverpool also had several chances to get at least one goal to win the game .

If any team has over 20 shots on goal without scoring they only have themselves to blame ..they certainly need to work out there finishing

I cant disagree with any of that ,all I was saying is Readings keeper will probably never have
a game like that in his entire life. I personally thought far too many shots were straight down
the keepers throat ,but there was at least five that were top class interventions.
