Arsenal v Wigan

Postby Conner99 » Sun May 12, 2013 7:48 pm

Arsenal need a win against Wigan to jump back into 4th spot in the table , the news that Tottenham beat Stoke 2-1 today means the Gunners have no room for errors as they look to qualify for the Champions League for a 16th succesive season .

Wigan`s stunning last minute 1-0 win over Man City in the FA Cup will be a big boost to Roberto Martinez and his players as they face a do or die match against Arsenal at the Emirates ...anything other than a win will see them relegated to the Championship next season .

We've got two tough, tough games now. Personally, I can't see us doing it unless Tottenham (We steal your songs) Hotspuds mess up, which I don't think they will.

So that'll mean 5th for us this season, and 'if' it happens, it's no more than Arsene deserves for his utter negligence.

Then, I hope he steps down.

I will be very surprised if Arsenal don't beat Wigan on Tuesday night and Newcastle are safe from the drop now and wont care how they perform on the final day.

I would normally agree with you but it will not be easy match for us ..with Wigan on cloud 9 after their FA Cup win they could cause a problem or two for us . We need to be firing on all cylinders and make sure there are no mistakes that Wigan can capitilize on ....as Poker said if we don't win these last two games and miss out on Champions League it will be no more than we deserve ...

Smart money will be on Arsenal. Wigan are looking as shaky as ever at the back whilst having nothing in way of a goal threat, times up I think.

fascinating fact ....Lucas Podolski will set a new Arsenal Premier League record if he is substituted tomorrow , overtaking Freddie Ljungberg, who was taken off 21 times in 2003-04.

You heard it here first ... :)

Quite a lot of pundits have commented on how poor this season in the Prem has been, but lets be honest there are still vital ties being played right up until the end. This one is, of course, of great interest to Spurs fans, as well as Gooners. Wigan have to win to stay up and will be going for it. Arsenal cannot afford to lose as it will let us in. Conclusion? 1-1.

It could be a case of after the "Lord Mayors Parade" for Wigan ,and I expect Arsenal to be
quick out the blocks for this one. 2-1 to the Gunners.

Excellent free kick by Maloney to get the equaliser. Credit to Wigan, they looked really 'leggy' for the first 20' and it looked like it might be a rout but they have come more into the game and Arsenal have been playing with fire giving them far too much space to attack.

If Martinez keeps this team up, I'm thinking he will be able to name the salary for his next job.
I'll be surprised if Wigan can hold out for another 45', but at least we have a game on for now!

but it wasn't for long ... :) i am relieved we got that second goal ....nice touch by Walcott , then with the third goal by Podolski Wigan were finished ...shame he could not have got his hatrick but you cannot blame Ramsey a super finish from him at a narrow angle .

I am gutted for Wigan as I like them and manager Roberto Martinez , but now it is all set up for a last day battle between us and Tottenham for that 4th spot ...

FT

Arsenal 4-1 Wigan
1-0 Podolski 11'
1-1 Maloney 45'
2-1 Walcott 63'
3-1 Podolski 68'
4-1 Ramsey 71'

FA Cup winners Wigan are relegated after 8 seasons in the PL.

Santi Cazorla has a great game and had a hand in all 4 of the Gunners goals.

Arsenal must now go to Newcastle and win at St James Park to play in the CL next season.

A clinical win by Arsenal, no complaints. Not expecting favours from Newcastle, I always thought this was the game to provide a possible upset if there was going to be one. Nonetheless, there is still something at stake for the final game of the season - could there be another twist in the tale :?:

delighted Wigan are back down where they belong. classless, plastic club.

well done to Arsenal for sticking the final nail in their coffin so emphatically.
