Stories over here surfacing of hooligans looking out for trouble with Irish fans, with the recent surge of EDL activity.
No doubt sensationalised, but no smoke without without fire and all that?....

Hope the match is remembered for the right reasons, a spanking of the boys in green so I can go into work with my head held high!

I remember that the last time we played
Rep of Ireland back in 1995 the match at the old Landsdown Road was abandoned.

I will be very surprised if there are no anti Muslim or no surrender to the IRA type chants during this game on Wednesday.

I Have split loyalties on this. I grew up with all of my Irish relatives around so I cannot bring myself to support England against Ireland. I will just watch as a neutral.

When we play Scotland I am staying indoors and not stepping foot outside my house!.

Welcome back Goldie, How have you been?

They say that there is going to be 10,000 Irish fans at Wembley on Wednesday night so it should be a good atmosphere.

Ashley Cole will be the captain of England to mark his 100th international although Lampard will carry out all the official duties!

God yeah, that whole night was cringeworthy.

If I remember rightly it was one of the few or only times Matt Le Tissier was given a free reign to show what he could do.
But thanks to those morons from Combat18 they soon put paid to that

Nice goal, 1-0

Anyone else think Englands new kit is extremely similar to the old Germany kits?

1-1 Lampard, my missus's not talking to me now - "she's not singing anymore!"

What a lovely header from Long for the opener, it was real text book stuff.

It is mate, I initially did not like the look of it from the promotional pictures, but seeing it worn this evening it could be a grower...

Its not bad looking but the fact that it immediately reminds you of your biggest rivals isn't exactly great!

Decent enough half considering how how awful most of our games are to watch, its refreshing to see a friendly with a competitive edge

I really dislike the new England kit and agree that it looks too much like Germany

It was an entertaining first half and Ireland played well while we were very sloppy on the ball

There was no way that Robbie Keane should have been awarded a penalty right before the end!!!

Well thanks Roy, by far and away the best friendly I've watched for decades, so far at least. It's not silky, it's not great technique, but it is entertaining. :D The Irish are clearly up for this, as are England, so I'm not going to worry too much about the comments from ITV's pundits, this is entertainment!

FT

England 1-1 Rep of Ireland
0-1 Long 13’
1-1 Lampard 23'

I think a draw was probably a fair result although not too many positives for England from this friendly.

The only player who impressed me out there was Chamberlain while Coleman did well I thought for the Irish.

I still don't see Roy Hodgson leading this team to the next world cup in Brazil and we should make the most of our game in Rio on Sunday as we won't be going back there.
