Crystal Palace v Tottenham

Postby Conner99 » Sun Aug 11, 2013 2:53 pm

Crystal Palace as one of the newly promoted clubs will be hoping to get off to a good start in the Premier League , a match against Tottenham is as tough as they come and manager Ian Holloway will have to get his players ready for what is going to be a fast and furious affair .

To help with that will be new signings , midfielder Jose Campana from Sevilla , winger Jerome Thomas from West Brom , midfielder Stephen Dobbie from Brighton and striker Dwight Gayle from Peterborough United .

Tottenham were devastated to lose out to Arsenal in the Champions League race last season , none more so than welsh wizard Gareth Bale ..rumours and speculation that he wants out have been going on all summer , he does remain a Spurs player though for now.

Tottenham have announced several new signings , Brazil midfielder Paulinho Corinthians for a fee of just under £17m ,
striker Roberto Soldado from Valencia for a club record fee of £26 million , winger Nacer Chadli from FC Twente for around
£7 million and a deal for french midfielder Etienne Capoue from Toulouse has been agreed .

So Andre Vilas-Boas will be out to make sure Tottemham do not lose out on Champions Legue football this season .

will be interesting to see how Spurs line up and whether the new faces will walk straight into the team.

defensively Spurs still have problems but i doubt the Palace frontline will cause too much trouble with Zaha out of the door and Murray on the treatment table.

a draw isn't beyond Palace but it will be a very tall order for them. 1-2

Its just been confirmed by AVB that Bale won't be playing on Sunday but I still think that Spurs will be too good for Palace.

Palace 0-2 Tottenham

This will be tight as newly promoted teams invariably come out with all pistons firing, the players and fans relishing the prospect of an early Premiership scalp. Spurs are going to come out with a changed line up for certain, it will be fascinating to see how AVB structures the formation. I'll take 1-2 victory for Spurs.

Mile Jedinak to score from 40 yards, Spurs to run out 4-1 winners though.

Well, not the most exciting game but the result was more important than the performance. Excellent, disciplined win by Tottenham. :)

FT

Crystal Palace 0-1 Tottenham
0-1 Soldado 50’ (pen.)

Spurs deserved their win but Palace showed a lot of spirit and made it difficult for them.

Any comments on Tottenham's win?

bit of a drab performance from Spurs which could be put down to a lot of things but getting the three points is obviously the main thing they will concern themselves with.

playing a newly promoted side away on opening day is never ideal as you know they'll be well up for it and it is never the easy game it looks on paper.

both sides will look to improve on this in terms of both performance and result, it has to be said.

It was a flat game, but yeah, 3 points is what counts. Thought Soldado played with a lot of confidence and I can see him getting on the end of a lot of Lennon's crosses.

It's waiting to see how Spurs gel and seeing what they offer after that.

Ian Holloway is already in trouble after just 1 match by saying refs favour certain clubs.

As far as I know Tottenham didn't win a penalty for the whole of last season so you could say there were due one.

Tottenham did what they needed nothing more. Not sure on the Belgian lad they've signed, he doesn't look great. Paulinho looked alright although not sure what will happen to Sandro if gets fit again. Soldado did ok and should score goals but im still surprised they spent 26m on him.
Palace will no doubt struggle, goals look like they will be a big issue for them and they look shy of a couple of players at the minute.
